About this ebook

This book is instructional guide on to become complete in the family of God. It also presents the true gospel as Jesus explained to Nicodemus. This book summarizes Jesus's explanation to all living men about the creation of God and emphasizes not only the importance of being born into the world but also the greater importance of being reborn into the family of Jesus Christ. As a reminder, I would like you to know that the true gospel of Christ teaches men how to inherit the kingdom of God. Jesus was elucidating the true gospel of the kingdom to Nicodemus without omitting anything. In John 3:3, He said, "You must be born again, spiritually born of water and fire, to inherit the kingdom."

Therefore, the three steps that Jesus gave to Nicodemus are as follows:

1. You must repent.

2. You must be baptized in water and fire.

3. You must receive the Holy Spirit of God.

These are the three steps you must take to become part of the family of God. Without these three steps, if you call yourself a Christian but have not taken them, you are not there yet. These are the required steps to be called a Christian. Jesus did not suggest other steps. He did not ask you to buy a plane ticket. All He asked for are these three steps. This is the gospel of the kingdom according to Jesus Christ, our Lord, which needs to be followed to be part of the family of God

    About the Author

    Introduction

Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and spirit.

    —John 3:5

Born in the family of God is a requirement to the kingdom of God, no VIP!

Born of water and spirit, the contrast between physical birth (water) and spiritual birth (spirit) being regenerated by the spirit and signifying that rebirth by Christian baptism. The water represents the cleaning action of God's Holy Spirit.

Nicodemus undoubtedly would have been familiar with God's promise in Ezekiel 36:25–26. Jesus was explaining the importance of a spiritual rebirth, saying that people don't enter the kingdom by living a better life, but by being spiritually reborn.

Who is the Holy Spirit? God is three persons in one—the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

God became a man in Jesus so that Jesus could die for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead to offer salvation to all people through spiritual renewal and rebirth.

When Jesus ascended into heaven, his physical presence left the earth, but he promised to send the Holy Spirit so that his spiritual presence would still be among mankind.

The Holy Spirit first became available to all believers who have the power of the Holy Spirit available to them. For more on the Holy Spirit, read John 14:16–28; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; and 2 Corinthians 1:22.

The power believers receive from the Holy Spirit includes courage, boldness, confidence, insight, ability, and authority. The disciples would need all these gifts to fulfill their mission. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you can experience the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.

Jesus had instructed the disciples to witness to people of all nations about the Holy Spirit in Matthew 28:19–20. But they were told to wait first for the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49). God has important work for you to do for him, but you must do it by the power of the Holy Spirit. We often like to get on with the job, even if it means ruining ahead of God. But waiting is sometimes part of God's plan. Are you waiting and listening for God's complete instructions, or are you running ahead of his plans? We need God's timing and power to be truly effective.

Then fifty days after the resurrection, ten days after the ascension, Jews of many nations had gathered in Jerusalem for this festival. Thus Peter's speech in Acts 2:14 was given to an international audience, and resulted in a worldwide harvest to new believers—the first converts to Christianity.

This was a fulfillment of John the Baptist's words about the Holy Spirit's baptizing with fire in Luke 3:16, and of the prophet Joel's words about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Joel 2:28–29.

Why tongues of fire? Tongues symbolize speech and set our hearts aflame to ignite the lives of others. On Mount Sinai, God confirmed the validity of the Old Testament law with fire from heaven (Exodus 19:16–18). At Pentecost, God confirmed the validity of true Holy Spirit ministry by sending fire. At Mount Sinai, fire had come down on one place; at Pentecost, fire came down on many believers, symbolizing that God's presence is now available to all who believe in him.

    Chapter 1

You Are Called in a Place to Belong

You are members of God's very own family citizens of God's country, and you belong in God's household with every other saints. God's family is the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

    —Ephesians 2:19

It is not good for man to be alone. But our creator came and established a great community fashioned for followship, and formed for a family, and none of us can fulfill God's purposes by ourselves. While your relationship to Christ is personal, God never intends it to be private. In God's family, you are connected to every other believer, and we will belong to each other for eternity. The Bible says in Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

Following Christ includes belonging, not just believing. We are members of his body, the church. If you notice that the word membership is of Christian origin, but the word has emptied it of its use. Member stores offer discounts to members, and advertisers are often reduced to simply adding your name to a roll with no requirement or expectations. Apostle Paul said being a member of the church meant being a vital organ of Christ. We need to recover and practice the biblical meaning of membership. The church is a body, not a building, and organism, not an organization. For the organs of your body to fulfill their purpose, they must be connected to your body. The same is true for you as a part of Christ's body. You were created for a specific role, but you will miss this second purpose of your life if you're not attached to a living local church. You discover your role in life through your relationship with others.

The Bible tells us around the body we're talking about is Christ's body of chosen people. Each of us wouldn't amount to much, would we?

If an organ is somehow severed from its body, it will shrivel and die. It cannot exist on its own, and neither can you. Disconnected and cut off from the lifeblood of a local body, your spiritual life will wither and eventually cease to exist. This is why the first symptom of spiritual decline is usually inconsistent attendance at worship services and other gathering of believers.

Whenever we become careless about fellowship, everything else begins to slide too. Membership in the family of God is neither inconsequential nor something to be casually ignored. The church is God's agenda for the world. Jesus said, I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. The church is indestructible and will exist for eternity. It will outlive this universe, and so will your role in it. The person who says I don't need the church is either arrogant or ignorant. The church is so significant that Jesus died on the cross for it. Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. The Bible calls the church the bride of Christ and the body of Christ. I can't imagine saying to Jesus, I love you, but I dislike your wife, or I accept you, but I reject your body. But we do this whenever we dismiss or demean or complain about the church.

Instead, God commands us to love the church as much as Jesus does. The Bible says love your spiritual family; sadly, many Christians use the church but don't love it.

    Your Local Fellowship

Except for a few important instances referring to all believers throughout history, almost every time the word church is used in the Bible, it refers to a local, visible congregation. The New Testament assumes membership in a local congregation. The only Christians who were not members of a local fellowship were those under church discipline who had been removed from the fellowship because of gross public sin. The Bible says a Christian without a church home is like an organ without a body, a sheep without a flock, or a child without a family. It is an unnatural state. The Bible says you belong in God's household with every other Christian.

Today's culture of independent individualism has created many spiritual orphans bunny believers, who hop around from one church to another without any identity, accountability, or commitment. Many believe one can be a "good Christian without joining a church or even attending a local church, but God would strongly disagree. The Bible offers many compelling reasons for being committed and active in a local fellowship.

Why You Need a Church Family

A church family identifies you as a genuine believer. I can't claim to be following Christ if I'm not committed to any specific group of disciples. Jesus said your love you have for one another will show to the world that you are my disciples. When we come together in love as a church family from different backgrounds, races, and social status, it is a powerful witness to the world. You are not the body of Christ on your own. You need others to express that. Together, not separated, we are his body. A church family moves you out of self-centered isolation. The local church is the classroom for learning how to get along in God's family. It is a lab practicing unselfish sympathetic love. As a participating member, you learn to care about others and share the experiences of others. If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it. Or if one part of the body is honored, all the other parts share its honor. Only is regular contact with ordinary, imperfect believers can we learn real fellowship is being as command to each other as we are to Jesus Christ. God expects to give our lives for each other. Many Christians who know John 3:16 are unaware of 1 John 3:16, Jesus Christ laid his life for us. And ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. This is the kind of sacrificial love God expects you to show other believers a willingness to love them in the same way Jesus loves you.

A church family helps you develop spiritual muscle. You will never grow to maturity just by attending worship service and being a passive spectator. Only participation in the full life of a local church builds spiritual muscle. The Bible says as each part does its own special work, it helps the other part grow so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Over fifty times in the New Testament the word or the phrase each other is used. We are commanded each other, greet each other, encourage each other, admonish each other, honor each other, bear each other's burdens, forgive each other, submit each other, be devoted to each other, and many other mutual tasks. This is biblical membership! These are your family responsibilities that God expects you to fulfill through a local fellowship. Whom are you doing these with if you don't have a membership in a local church?

    Chapter 2

    Instruction for Public Worship

Apostle Paul instructed the church the rule of public worship. He said, I am so glad that you always keep me in your thoughts and that you are following the teaching I passed on to you. But there is one thing I want you to know; the head of every man and woman, and the head of Christ is God (1 Corinthians 11:1).

    Honoring Your God's Temple

A man dishonors his head if he covers his head while partying or prophesying. But a woman dishonors her head if she prays or prophesies without covering her head, for this is the same as shaving her head. Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering. A man should not wear anything on his head when worshipping. For man is made in God's image and reflects God's glory. And the woman reflects man's glory. For the first man didn't come from woman, but the first woman came from man. And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.

For this reason and because the angels are watching a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority. But among the Lord's people, women are not independent of men, and men not independent of women. For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything comes from God. Judge for yourselves, is it right for a woman to pray to God in public without covering her head? Isn't it obvious that it's disgraceful for a man to have long hair? And isn't long hair a woman's pride and joy? For it has been given to her as a covering. But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other customs than this, and neither does God's other church.

Paul talked about imitating Christ when imitating someone is acting like the person, Paul wants to act like Christ. He want to be obey like Christ, love like Christ. Once you become Christian, you immediately carry Christ's name. You're old, you have to start changing to look like Christ. Paul said once you become a spiritual leader, you need to imitate Christ because you must set an example of Christlikeness to follow. Timothy 4:12 says, Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in your purity.

Paul said keep the traditions as they were delivered to us. That means use God's word in a positive way, and he was referring to man-made ideas of practices, especially those that conflict with scriptures. In Matthew 15:2–6, the pharisees and teachers of religion asked Jesus, ‘Why do your disciples disobey our age-old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.' Then Jesus replied to them, ‘And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God? For instance, God says, ‘Honor your father and mother,' and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of his father or mother must be put to death.' But you say it is all right for people to say their parents, ‘Sorry, I can't help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.' In this way, you say they don't need to honor their parents. And so you cancel the word of God for the sake of your own tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.'

Christ is the lead of the church as its savior and Lord. Ephesians 1:22 says, God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the Church. He is also the Lord over every unbeliever. Matthew 28:18 says, Jesus came and told his disciples, I have been given authority in heaven and on earth. Someday all will acknowledge his authority.' Philippians 2:10–11 says, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Man has authority over women in the basic order of creation. First Corinthians 8:9 says, But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. Man needs to use their authority over woman in goodness so that you don't cause her to sin, because God will hold you accountable for causing her to sin. Jesus Christ used his authority over the church with all love, kindness, patience, peacefulness, and gentleness so that the church will not fail. We men need to be like Jesus around our women like he is around the church. Christ not only loves the church, but he gave his life on the cross for the church. We men need to be ready to give our lives for our wives. We men need to treat them like they are your own life on a cross for them. Christ didn't think about the outcome of the church before he gave his life for the church on the cross. Beaches this is a full responsibility from God though women. We men cannot treat them like slaves or house women because Jesus went on the cross with all the men slave mindtility. Because of that, Jesus brought his blood to the church so all men in the church should be washed under the blood of Christ.

God is the head of Christ. Christ has never been in any way inferior in essence to the Father, but incarnated he willingly submitted himself to the Father's will in humble obedience. John 10:30 says, The Father and I are one. Women, you need to follow Christ's footsteps. As he is one with the Father, all women should be one with her husband. Women, you need to be obedient to your husband as Christ does in every way. In John 17:21–23, Jesus said, I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

Every man praying or prophesying having his head covered dishonors his head. Paul is probably referring to men wearing a head covering, which seems to have been a local custom Jews began wearing head covering during the fourth-century AD, although some may already have been wearing them in New Testament times. Apparently the Corinthian men were doing the same things. Paul informed them that it is a disgrace. Paul is not stating universal law from God, but acknowledging a local custom which did reflect divine principle. In that society, a man's uncovered head was a sign of his authority over women, who were to have their head covered. For a man to cover his head was to suggest a reversal of proper roles.

For women who pray or prophesies, Paul makes clear directives that women are not to lead or speak in the services of the church. First Corinthians 14:34 says, Women should be silent during the church meeting. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meeting. But they may pray and proclaim the truth to unbelievers, as well as teach children and other women. First Timothy 5:16 says, If a woman who is a believer has relative who a widows she must take care of them and not put the responsibility on the church. Then the church can care for the widows who are truly alone. Paul said wherever and whenever women do pray and proclaim the word appropriately, they must do so maintaining proper distinction from men. A woman who doesn't cover her head during service meetings, she dishonors her head. Her head may refer to her own self being disgraced by refusing to conform to recognized symbols of submission, or to her husband, who is disgraced her behavior.

A woman is the glory of man. As man carries authority delegated to him by God, so a woman carries authority delegated to her by God through her husband. Man came from God; woman came from man (Genesis 2:9–23). Titus 2:2–3 says, Teach the old men to exercise self-control to be worthy of respect and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and filled with love and patience. Similarly teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others of be heavy drinkers. Instead they should teach others what is good.

    Chapter 3

The Assumption of Christ from the Father

Christ was authorized from the Father's directed permission to the feast in Jerusalem. John 7:10–15 says, When Jesus's brothers had gone to festival, Jesus also went, though secretly, staying out of public view. The Jewish leaders tried to find him at the festival and kept asking if anyone had seen him. There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some argued, ‘He's a good man,' but others said, ‘He's nothing but a fraud who deceives the people.' But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with Jewish leaders.

The assumption is that the Father had directed Jesus to permit him to go to Jerusalem. The secrecy of his journey indicates his maximum discretion, which was the complete opposite of what his brothers had demanded of him. The brothers talked about him so that they didn't believe in him, because the brothers of Jesus said to him, If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world. They wanted Jesus to put on a display of his miracles. Although the text does not clearly state their motivation, perhaps they made the request for two reasons:

They wanted to see the miracles for themselves to determine their genuineness.

They may have had similar political motives as did the people, namely that he would become their social and political messiah.

Jerusalem's acceptance of him was to be the acid test for them as to whether his own family would believe in him as Messiah. The Jewish leaders were looking for him in the crowd and asked if anyone saw him. They reason for looking for Jesus was they were going to kill him in the Jerusalem festival, but he was there secretly, only the Father knowing that he was at the festival.

    Chapter 4

God Calls Some of Us to Lead Others

I am now called by God to mentoring others. The prophet Elijah played a critical role in Elisha's growth as a head. Elijah found him plowing a field and invited him to be his protégé after God told him to anoint Elisha as his successor (1 Kings 1:1–18). The young mentee watched his mentor perform incredible miracles and obey God no after what. God used Elijah to prepare Elisha's life for a lifetime of ministry. Toward the end of Elijah's life, Elisha had the opportunity to leave. Instead, he chose to renew his commitment to his mentor. Three times Elijah offered to release Elisha from his duties, yet each time he refused, saying, As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you (2 Kings 2: 2, 4, 6). As a result Elisha's faithfulness, he too was used by God in extraordinary ways. We all need someone who models what it means to follow Jesus. May God give us godly men and who help us grow spiritually. And may we too, by the power of his spirit invest our lives in others. (https://odb.org/US/2019/05/07/someone-who-leads)

The group of prophets from Bethel came to Elisha as asked him, Did you know that the Lord going to take master away from you today?

Elisha responded, Of course I know. But be quiet about it.…Then Elisha replied again, As surely as the lord live and you yourself live, I will never leave you. So Elijah didn't have no choice but take Elisha with him to Jericho.

Then the group of prophets from Jericho came to Elisha and asked him, Did you know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today?

Elisha responded, Of course I know. But be quiet about it.

Then Elijah said to Elisha, Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to the Jordan River. But again Elisha replied, As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you. So they went on together.

Fifty men from the group of prophets also went and watched from a distance as Elijah and Elisha stopped beside the Jordan River. Then Elijah folded his cloak together and struck the water with it. The river divided, and the two of them went across on dry ground!

When they had crossed to the other side the River, Elijah said to Elisha, Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away. And Elisha replied, "Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.

Elijah replied, You have asked me a difficult thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won't.

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it and cried out, My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel! And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress.

Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah's cloak and cried out, Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah? Then the river divided, and Elisha when across.

When the group of prophets from Jericho saw from a distance what happened, they exclaimed, Elijah's spirit rests upon Elisha! And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. Sir, they said, just say the word and fifty of our strongest men will search the wilderness for your master. Perhaps the spirit of the Lord has left him on some mountain or in some valley.

No, Elisha said, don't send them. But they kept urging him until they shamed him into agreeing, and he finally said, All right, send them. So fifty searched for three days but did not find Elijah. Elisha was still at Jericho when they returned. Didn't I tell you not to go? he asked. (2 Kings 2:3–18)

    Chapter 5

Christ Promised Us We Will Never Be Alone

Sometimes we feel the darkness of loneliness, but we are not alone. For this reason, we need fellow believers.

Hebrews concludes its deep discussion of Jesus's sacrifice by encouraging us to meet together continually (10:25). We belong to the family of God so we are to love one another as brothers and sisters and show hospitality to strangers (13:1–2). If we each made an effort, everyone would feel cared for.

Lonely people may not return our kindness, but this is no reason to give up. Jesus has promised to never leave nor forsake us (13:5), and we can use his friendship to fuel our love for others. Are you lonely? What ways can you find to serve the family of God? The friends you make in Jesus last forever, through this life and beyond. (https://ymi.today/2019/05/odb-minister-of-loneliness/)

Apostle Paul said, Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies (Hebrews 13:3). So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally to ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:6). No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you (Joshua 1:5). "What's more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you (Genesis 28:15).

David told Solomon, Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly (1 Chronicles 28:20). You as believers you can be content in every situation you're in because of God's promises. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands that I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

The kind of evangelism called for in this commission does not end with the conversion of the unbeliever. Jesus said to them, I will be with you. There's a touching echo of the beginning of Matthew's gospel here, Immanuel (1:23), which is translated to God is with us. He remains with us even to the end to the age until he returns bodily to judge the world and establish his earthly kingdom. We are never alone. Even in our sleep, God is with us, watching over us. The Holy Spirit never leaves us as children of God. Not everyone is the child of God. If you're not the children of God, don't think you have the same protection like the children of God. For some people might think that they are protected by the angels of the Lord, but they're not. The believers, the brothers and sisters of Christ Jesus, are the family that God is concerned about. Because of the promise that Jesus had made to the disciples, Jesus did not say if you are not a believer, he's going to be with you also. The promise was for only the family of God. If you want to be protected by the same promise, you need to come join the family of Jesus Christ. Then you will be covered by the same protection as all Christians are.
