Words alone cannot express my abundant gratitude for your faith, compassion, and generosity. Without which, the completion of this work would not have been possible. Prayerfully, it is as much a boon to you, if not a greater one, as it is to any and all who find grace, aid, and/or comfort within its pages. Thank you all, and may God's face ever shine upon you.
Introduction
If you would pay attention, if you were to just look around and pay attention, you would see something miraculous every single day. Existence is a remarkable thing, really. The universe is made up of so many unique and intermingling parts that come together in a way that makes stars shine and planets spin. Though seemingly vast and random, the universe we live in starts to make some sense the more you look at it, and look at it we did. We realized that there is indeed a rhyme and rhythm to the gorgeous madness. The planets orbit the sun while spinning. I'll say that again; the planets orbit the sun while spinning! Some planets even have moons that fly around them while they orbit the sun, while spinning. In some outstanding fashion, this has been happening for a very long time without our particular star and planets stepping on each other's proverbial toes. What a perfectly balanced and measured system we happen to benefit from. That's not even one of the most amazing facts of reality, although it is absolutely neat.
We lie within a very particular system of systems. We live upon a planet within a solar system among solar systems, wholly dependent upon seasons and cycles that we have no control over for our survival: the four seasons, the four winds, the earth cycle, the water cycle, dry seasons, rainy seasons, et cetera, et cetera. It doesn't end there though. As we scaled down the scope, we noticed yet another smaller scale of systems: ecosystems—animal, plant, and insect families adhering to outstanding, instinct-driven schedules and traditions, enduring for thousands of generations unto their health and survival, as well as the health and survival of the planet. Just as the steadfast faithfulness of our solar systems' eon-long space waltz, these creatures' established systems existed long before us humans could even appreciate them. There is still yet a truth more fantastic than this though.
We human beings found or made semi-adequate shelter, hunted, and gathered, and followed the migration patterns of other creatures in order to stay alive. Something a
