    About The Author

    Chapter 1

I can't believe you read this garbage! Brianna's colleague raised the book and looked at it disdainfully. What do you see in books like this, anyways?

Sighing, Brianna raised an eyebrow at the relevant book. The cover featured a scowling guy without a shirt clutching a voluptuous lady, and the words The Alpha's Timid Mate were printed in bright orange over the top.

I don't read it for fun. Muttering, she reached up and retrieved the book. She gently placed the enormous roller luggage she had opened behind her away from the hundreds of other werewolf novels.

Then what is it? Her colleague questioned incredulously.

    Research.

Are you serious? Research? For what? When your werewolf lover pops up out of nowhere? She gave forth a scornful snort. Sure.

    ...You don't understand.

She is unable to comprehend us. Silently, the wolf within Brianna's brain murmured.

    That's what I said.

Is it possible for us to consume her? The thought appeared to delight her wolf.

No. You are aware that we are unable. You don't even really want to. You're simply acting up because you're frustrated I won't let you watch scary movies any longer.

I'm not misbehaving! But since you said it... bring back the scary flicks!

    No.

What are you talking about? Her colleague frowned; bewildered by the exchange she could only hear part of.

Brianna turned to face her momentarily and shrugged. Sorry, I'm just having a brief debate. I'll be free to chat soon.

Don't bother. The girl went away, mumbling under her breath. Freak.

Should have simply devoured her. Wolves don't even eat humans. Stop pretending. How do you know? Perhaps humans are eaten by WEREwolves! You're completely clueless! You still haven't located a pack. despite your PROMISE!

I know, I know. Brianna wiped her forehead tiredly. It's harder than I thought it would be.

I'm bored and alone! I'm itching to go sprint! A pack is what I desire!

Anything else, Your Highness? A bone on a silver platter?

The wolf halted at that, sulking silently ... I'm starving. Feed us something tasty. That I can do. We'll eat during our lunch break. Steak?

    ...We'll see.

The entrance of the bookshop she was tending to opened, and her wolf gave a secret cheer. A peculiar odor caught her nostrils. Mint and pine mixed with a smell she was not quite sure what it was.

Brianna was taken aback as she glanced up. The guy entering seemed as if he had just stepped off the book cover of one of her werewolf novels. Muscular, attractive... his brown hair just long enough to frame his emerald eyes. And lofty... Although Brianna had always been aware of her little stature, she had never felt as disadvantageous about it as she did as the guy got closer.

He resembles the main character in book #298. Her wolf hinted in a curious manner.

I was thinking book #645, but I see your point.

Why do you believe he's here? I don't know.

Brianna retreated as he approached her, his eyes locking on hers, her wolf growling in her head.

A WEREWOLF, THAT'S WHAT! ... much better, he smells powerful... an ALPHA? GO FAST, MATE HIM!

A beta? Oh no. That was terrible news, as Brianna had done enough homework to realize. Look here, Missy, I am not assaulting some stranger just because...

So that I can accomplish it, let's move to wolf next!

    No!

Excuse me... The guy spoke forward, his voice shaky
