Introduction

Who I am?

I am just an ordinary family man who has become independently wealthy from old fashioned hard work in the service business.

I am not a big shot executive with fancy degrees and titles. I barely made it through school with mediocre grades. The only degree I have is a three-year plumbing diploma that I earned at trade school a long time ago.

I do value education a lot. It is a powerful tool in this day and age. In the job market, you need more than a high school diploma to get a decent job that can support a family. A bachelor's degree is becoming the minimum requirement.

Education is all about options. The more you learn, the more opportunities you have. But I did not have that privilege growing up in a single-parent working-class family in Britain. I do have a strong work ethic that my mum taught me when I was young.

I do not drive flashy cars, but I don't drive junk either. I do not have a mansion on a hill, but I do have a lovely home big enough for my family and friends. Our 6-year-old daughter goes to one of the best schools in the area and our 2-year-old daughter will soon join her. I can work as much or as little as I want. I think we are lucky and living the true American Dream.

But it was not easy to get here. It took hard work and lots of sacrifices. Sometimes I felt like our American Dream was turning into a nightmare.

I am thrilled to share with you my experience of running various businesses in the service industry for over 30 years. I have had my share of successes and failures, but I have always learned something valuable from each one. I am not a business guru or a millionaire, but I know how to turn a small investment into a profitable venture. My biggest start-up cost was less than five thousand dollars, and my smallest was only three hundred dollars. That turned out to be my most successful business in the swimming pool industry. That is why I decided to write this book and share with you the secrets of making money in this niche. I want to help you achieve your goals and dreams by giving you practical and proven advice. This book is the first in a series of how-to guides that will teach you everything you need to know about different service businesses. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
