Acknowledgment
Fortunately for me, my whole life has been blessed with cats and kittens within it.
So, there are simply too many who have influenced me in regard to the love and wonder these creatures bring to one’s life, including their unique view of reality and challenge.
I would like to acknowledge just a few: ~ Windsor Betts, who brought ‘According to an ancient Chinese story, the gods asked cats to run the world, but the animals declined: They had better things to do.’ (Quote from LIFE magazine - special edition reissue, 9/15/23) ~ this says it all, doesn’t it. ~ Kirk Livesey, who shared his beloved ‘monkey boy’ Senue, would scoop up water in his paw, confirming my character TRIXIE’s learned quirk ~ Sharon Touchstone, with her peripheral and ever-present cat and kitty nuanced stories. ~ Susan Montanaro, thank you for your editing direction and shared love of cats. ~ Deborah Long, for your constant loving support and spiritual guidance. ~ Ed and Connie Bell, my beloved brother and his family, for their endless and enduring love and support. Ed was with me on the trek across L.A. to gather up Wally, our beautiful Black boy-cat, from Caring Songs Adoption Agency. And thank you to Diane, my wife, for just being herself.
This book would not be a reality without the joyous and positive help of Blue Mount Publishers and specifically James Duran and Sam Wilson ~ And their multi-faceted Team of diligent and creative professionals.
Yes, We Are Blessed.

Prologue
In the heart of a weathered and forgotten alley, under the rusty shelter of an abandoned pickup truck, an extraordinary tale of survival and unlikely connections began. It was a place where destiny wove the threads for a young kitten into an intricate tapestry of hardship, enduring bonds, and trust in the discovery of her intuition in the midst of this unfamiliar world.
In the shadow of post-war homes and the haunting embrace of dilapidated garages, a lone mother cat, fierce and devoted, gave birth to her tiny, fragile offspring. Among the piles of aged newspapers, the kittens found warmth and safety, their world circumscribed by the comforting confinement of a cardboard box.
Yet, their existence was far from idyllic. The alley was a place of peril, where feral street dogs, driven by instinct and hunger, posed a constant threat to the vulnerable feline family. The young kittens, their eyes barely open, clung to each other and their loving mother, learning the art of survival one precarious day at a time.
As the weeks passed, the young felines faced a cruel test. Their mother disappeared, leaving them to fend for themselves in a harsh, unforgiving world. Two of the siblings ventured away, leaving only Trixie and her sister to face the challenges that lay ahead. Hunger drove them to explore the alley's mysterious treasures, discovering a peculiar source of sustenance in discarded cans and brown paper bags.
The alley, with its narrow confines and ancient secrets, became both a sanctuary and a battlefield for them. Roaming the twisted paths between stacked junk and garages in disrepair, the young kittens learned the harsh lessons of survival, where every day brought new dangers and unexpected surprises.
Amidst this tumultuous backdrop, barely avoiding the perilous reach of alley-kids, a chance encounter led Trixie to a hidden refuge beneath a wooden deck. It is here that our story takes an unexpected turn, as the young protagonist encounters a most unusual and unexpected family. This encounter, born of necessity and curiosity, would prove to be the first thread in a tale of unexpected friendships, profound wisdom, and shared hardships.
And so begins our tale, a story of survival, resilience, learning to trust one’s intuition, and the enduring power of connections. From where Trixie begins to understand that there are even
