Liz peeked her head around the swinging door, dividing the kitchen from the bakery’s front. Bitsie, engrossed in the bowl of raspberry cupcake batter, responded to her sister-in-law’s greeting with a question of her own.
What do you mean?
Bitsie inquired, her finger lingering in the batter.
How does it feel, now that you’re a small-business owner?
Liz clarified.
Bitsie acknowledged the reference to the new sign outside. Oh, you noticed. No, I don’t mind at all,
she reassured Liz. It’s a lovely sign, and seeing your name replaced with mine up there brings me joy.
