Once upon a time, in a village nestled among green hills and winding streams, there lived a little boy named Ma Liang. Ma Liang had a heart as big as the sky and a passion for drawing that bubbled like a pot of boiling noodles.
But oh, Ma Liang's family was as poor as a mouse in a cheeseless pantry. They didn't even own a single brush for Ma Liang to dip into colorful dreams.
One bright day, while guiding the family cows back from grazing, Ma Liang stumbled upon a grand building with windows like sparkling jewels. It was a school, bustling with the hum of learning.
Through one window, Ma Liang spied a magical sight: an artist, as nimble as a dancing leaf, painting with a brush that danced across the paper like a bird in flight. And who was he painting for? A noble official, dressed in robes as rich as a rainbow.
Mesmerized by the scene, Ma Liang tiptoed closer until he stood before the open door. With eyes wide as full moons, he gathered his courage and piped up, Excuse me, kind sirs, might I borrow a brush? I long to learn the art of drawing.
But instead of kindness, the artist and the official burst into laughter like thunder echoing through the hills. You?
they scoffed, their words sharp as winter winds. A poor child like you, learning to draw? Ha!
With a swift kick, they sent Ma Liang tumbling out into the dusty street.
