Tish...Tiish...Tiiish...Can you hear me?
the nurse whispered, gently caressing Tish’s shoulder while she muttered, Take me home now...Take me home now,
as she convulsed under the blanket. Her half-shut eyes dripped with tears. Some rolled down the side of her face, landing freely on her curly red hair, sprawled all over the flimsy hospital pillow.
It’s okay. You’re fine now,
the nurse continued, applying light pressure on Tish’s shoulder, causing her to spasm and move her head from side to side as though frantic to break free from a powerful force causing her unimaginable harm.
Where am I?
Tish asked, wide-eyed, wriggling to escape from the nurse’s grip, still unable to grasp her condition as she stared at her face, looking for answers.
You’re safe. We’re in the Jand clinic,

In her mind, the glossy pink pastel oil paint would have been more appropriate for an indoor garden, not for a crowded hospital ward where it left a crippling feeling of hopelessness.

There were at least six other beds in the room, each with an occupant at a different level of discomfort. The patient on her left had one leg hanging in the air, and the one on the far right had tubes entering and exiting different parts of his body. Tish scanned the room and wished she could talk to each of them to hear their stories, but she knew that was not feasible in her condition. Instead, she focused on the
