    CONTINUED FROM PART ONE…

    Who is it?

    Open the door.

My breath caught in my throat. Xavier?

I opened the door to find him soaking wet, a strained expression on his face. I let him in, rushing to my room for a towel.

Are you hurt? I ask, based on his expression, and he shrugs.

Think I sprained my fist a bit.

    You didn’t …

    Hit her? No.

I love how he finishes my sentences. I breathe a silent sigh of relief before helping him dry off.

Why are you here? I ask him after he gets his wet self-comfy on my couch.

    You didn’t answer my text.

I look at him in disbelief. Did I have to? You said it was done.

I just thought you would’ve said something.

I decide to remain quiet, standing awkwardly in the room.

What’re you really doing here, Xavier?

He stares at me for a moment, contemplating what to say next.  Gawd, he looked yummy with his hair all wet and slicked back; it only enhanced his brown eyes.

    I broke up with Ivy.

Unsure why my heart jumped—but it did.  As you should, I reply while crossing my arms, how did it go?

He lifts his sprained fists, and I nod.

    Not that well, huh?

He let out a little snort, and I couldn’t help but smile.

Come on, he pats the cushion beside him on the couch, and I sigh.

I bit down on my lower lip, and I watched his eyes cast down to my pucker. I am doomed. I am his magnet to his steel.  I concluded that I was in love with him and sat beside him.

    So . . . we kissed.

We did . . . like we planned to.

And … the sex? Not planned.

    "Definitely, not planned."

We sat there in silence, but his leg brushed up against mine. He takes my hand in his.

What’re you doing, I shift to look at him, "you just broke up with your girlfriend—"

    Marry me.

I look at him like he’s got three eyes in the center of his head. Excuse me? I let out a breathless laugh, but his face doesn’t resemble any humor. Xavier?

    Marry me, he repeats.

What the f—, I stand, you’ve obviously lost your mind.

    Sit down.

I tilt my head at him, my arms crossing my chest.

Please … sit down? He smiles.

His grin is also my downfall. I sit down next to him again.

He grabs my hand for a second time. Capri, I feel something with you that I’ve never felt with Ivy. I’ve been wasting all this time fawning over her because she was everything I wanted her to be, but she was never what I needed. But you are.

He looks sincere, and my heart is racing! Common sense be damned! And you know this because we sent a few flirty texts here and there and went through with our plan for revenge?

Am I crazy here? Didn’t you feel it, too?

"Even if I did, that doesn’t mean marriage!" I want to escape again, but he holds me down by the waist and gradually brings me to the seat.

Capri . . . I don’t want to scare you, and I realize that that’s what I’m doing right now, but that isn’t my intention.

"I’m not getting married, I tell him, so relax, you’re being crazy."

Am I? I hear him say. But I know deep down in my heart I was just as crazy as he was.

We’ve both been cheated on . . . We need to give each other time to heal. After I said it, I knew I shouldn’t have—his face looked impaled.

I wish it were that simple for me, Capri, I really do.

Our heads both whip around to the sound of giggling and the door closing.

    It was Ivy and Truett.

With their hands all over one another—hers up his shirt, and his across her ass, pulling her body towards his erection.

Xavier and I remained reserved until they finally realized they were on display.

Oh shit! Ivy exclaims, eyeing us sitting on the couch in the living room.

Truett turned and looked straight at me, Oh, hey girl, I didn’t see you there.

We hadn’t spoken since we last spoke. I was surprised he remembered what I looked like, to
