Chapter 1 - Introduction
All about a sales letter
A sales letter is a document designed to promote sales. It is intended to persuade the reader to place an order or request information about a product or service. The basic goal is to motivate the reader to take a certain action.
Results of my research and development
I am turning to you to let you know about the really great washing machine that I have developed. First of all, I know it is wonderful because I have spent years working on washing machines of all kinds. Then I expanded my field of research and development (R&D) to include all kinds of commercial washing machines, and I've been privy to all kinds of secrets that make sure dirt comes out in the most unimaginable places. Now, TEN YEARS LATER, I am ready to let you enjoy the fruits of my hard work. I have developed the EZ WASHER. I have to tell you that it will put all other washing machines you have ever seen to shame.
Do you find anything wrong with this sales letter? Almost everything is wrong.

That's why I've first briefly summarized below the most important reasons why you should create a sales letter.
a) It draws attention to the product and services you offer
The primary and most important reason for using sales letters as a marketing tool is to make the customer aware of your product or service by engaging the reader with appropriate facts.
b) Find an excuse for a future appointment
The sales letter can be used to make the consumer aware of future contact, for example, by visiting them in person or calling them for an appointment.
c) Answering inquiries
If the customer has asked for additional information about a particular product or service at an earlier stage, a sales letter can be sent to respond to their questions. This in itself may be a basis for selling the product or service.
––––––––
d) General information
A sales letter can inform the consumer about the latest offers, products, services, sales, and so on. It may be any other information that you believe will interest the reader. The consumer may have specifically asked you to inform them of such information and/or you may be targeting consumer groups exclusively.
To figure out how you should write your cover letter, it is important to define
