    Chapter One: The Denied Proposal

The grand hall of Tribalia's royal palace glistened under the warm light of a thousand candles. Tapestries depicting the kingdom’s rich history adorned the walls, each telling a story of triumph and peace under the reign of Emperor Brothwick II. The old Emperor sat upon his ornate throne, his kind eyes clouded with the fog of age and dementia. To his right stood Queen Emeline, her calculating eyes sharp as daggers despite her aged appearance. Prince Lance and Prince Bernard flanked their parents, their contrasting demeanors as clear as day and night.

Emperor Brothwick leaned forward slightly, peering at the group before him. King Sincero IV, his face a mask of restrained fury, stood tall, flanked by his equally malevolent wife, Lucinda, and their son, Prince Tom, who looked disinterested and slightly drunk.

Your Majesty, began King Sincero, his voice dripping with false cordiality, I come with a proposal to unite our great kingdoms through marriage. My son, Prince Tom, and your lovely daughter, Princess Susan.

A murmur spread through the court, all eyes turning to Princess Susan, who stood near the throne, her naïve eyes wide with surprise. Jim and Jon Botham, the twins who adored her, exchanged worried glances.

Emperor Brothwick smiled gently, his mind drifting somewhere between the present and a distant memory. Marriage, you say? Between our Susan and your Tom?

Queen Emeline's eyes narrowed. Indeed, a most... interesting proposal, she said, her tone laced with hidden contempt. She knew Sincero's ambitions too well.

Prince Lance leaned in, his voice a low hiss. Father, you must refuse. We cannot trust the Sinceros.

But before the Emperor could respond, Prince Bernard stepped forward. Father, perhaps we should consider the implications carefully. A marriage alliance could bring stability.

Prince Tom swayed slightly, his glassy eyes attempting to focus on Susan. Yeah, let's get this over with, he slurred, causing an awkward silence to fall over the hall.

Jed Macklefield, standing vigilant by the throne, cleared his throat. Your Majesty, I must advise against this union. The Sinceros have never been allies we could trust.

King Sincero's façade cracked for a moment, a flicker of rage in his eyes. You insult my family, Macklefield? We come in peace, offering unity.

Queen Emeline stepped forward, her voice cold and commanding. Peace? Or subjugation? We know your true intentions, Sincero.

Lucinda Sincero smirked, her eyes meeting Emeline's with a spark of malice. My sister, always so distrustful. We offer a way to end the enmity between our families.

Emeline's eyes flashed with fury. Do not call me sister. We were separated for a reason.

Emperor Brothwick, struggling to keep up, finally found his voice. "I... I do not think this marriage is... is a good
