Becoming a Wizard in the Primordial Era - Yu Shu Shu

    Chapter 356: Xuan’s Change

Wu Yu, holding a Wind Lantern in one hand and a dagger in the other, quickly arrived at the scene of the battle between Ou and Xi Ya.

Xi Ya, thanks to his superior equipment, still managed to hold out against Ou, aided by Little King Kong’s occasional sneak attacks on Ou. For the time being, Ou couldn’t capture Xi Ya.

Of course, despite having the Combat Armor, Xi Ya was still forced to retreat by Ou’s attacks. He kept getting knocked backward, colliding with boulders, stone walls, or rolling into the darkness.

But like an unkillable cockroach, Xi Ya would get back up every time he was knocked down and fight Ou using his Subduing Beast Technique and Sixteen Fatal Moves.

Seeing all this, Wu Yu decided to risk using Soul Sound.

Wu Yu wasn’t entirely sure if he could still perform a Soul Sound attack.

Still, he had to try, even if there was a chance it would fail.

Stopping a short distance behind Ou, he abruptly opened his mouth.

However, to Wu Yu’s dismay, all that came out of his mouth was a hoarse roar. The earth-shattering roar he had envisioned never materialized.

It was obvious that his attempt at Soul Sound had failed.

If he couldn’t use Soul Sound, then forget about Soul Thorn.

The roar, however, successfully drew Ou’s attention. He turned to face Wu Yu and looked at him curiously. He couldn’t understand why he would roar at him.

Soon enough, he came to a realization. The sharp pain that had caused him to briefly lose consciousness earlier must have been the work of this An Wu. It seemed as if he was trying to cast some kind of Witchcraft on him, but had apparently failed.

Remembering the brief moment of disorientation, Ou was filled with lingering fear.

If it weren’t for their tribe’s Combat Pets, which would selflessly block attacks for Totem Warriors when their lives were in danger, he might have ended up as a corpse, like Qing and Liang, by now.

Their tribe’s Combat Pets, after being Blood Sacrificed by others, could be controlled. However, upon encountering a Totem Warrior from the Barbaric Elephant Tribe, they would instinctively exhibit fear, and would actively block attacks that threatened their lives.

With that in mind, Ou made a decision. He had to capture the An Wu before he could cast that Witchcraft again; otherwise, he might be killed here if he were to be caught off guard.

So, he charged towards Wu Yu, ignoring Xi Ya and Little King Kong for the moment. After all, it was this An Wu who had killed Kuang.

Ou finally understood how Kuang had died. He must have been hit by this An Wu’s Witchcraft, which had led to his death. Otherwise, as a Si Wu, there was no way he could have killed Kuang.

Seeing Ou heading straight for him, Wu Yu didn’t hesitate. He grabbed the Wind Lantern and rushed towards the dark river. If Ou’s target was him, then he might as well lure him away, giving Xuan and Xi Ya time to escape.

However, Wu Yu didn’t expect to step on a loose stone, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the darkness below.

As it turned out, this actually helped him dodge Ou’s giant hand, which had been reaching for his back.

As he fell, the Wind Lantern in his hand was knocked away, and he landed in complete darkness.

Seizing the opportunity, Xi Ya and Little King Kong rushed forward and blocked Ou, who was about to jump down.

Wu Yu, who had fallen into the darkness, felt his internal organs shift, but he wasn’t injured. After getting up, he checked his surroundings. Seeing that he was less than a hundred meters away from the dark river, an idea came to mind.

He had originally planned to lure Ou after him, but now that was impossible, as Xi Ya and Little King Kong were holding him back.

Strangely enough, the Golden Monkey had followed him all the way here and was now sitting on his shoulder, much to Wu Yu’s amusement.

Ever since he had put on the Jade Crown, the Golden Monkey had become much more attached to him.

But now was not the time to dwell on such thoughts.

He stood on a large rock and, using the light from the Wind Lantern, saw that Xi Ya and Little King Kong were still able to hold off Ou for a while. Seizing the opportunity, he took out his Soul Bead and began to replenish his Soul Force.

He figured that the reason he had failed to use Soul Sound earlier was because his Soul Force was too depleted.

As he replenished his Soul Force, he kept an eye on Xi Ya and the others’ battle. As soon as they showed any signs of defeat, he would immediately put his plan into action.

Xi Ya and Little King Kong were fighting Ou exceptionally well, but they were also in constant danger. If they hadn’t been wearing Combat Armor, they would have long since been knocked unconscious by Ou’s fists.

The reason why Bear Leopard had been knocked into the dark river by Ou’s single punch was because it was less agile than Xi Ya and Little King Kong, despite its own agility.

Wu Yu, who was sitting on the boulder replenishing his Soul Force, was feeling increasingly anxious. He hadn’t expected the enemy to send a Blue-Patterned Warrior after them. They must have thought highly of him.

It seemed he had made a tactical error.

But then he came to terms with it. Even if he hadn’t sent Jiang and the others to tell them, the Barbaric Elephant Tribe would have been able to find him with the Jade Disk. They might even have sent even stronger warriors.

At that moment, Xuan, who had been lying on the ground, moved his fingers and then opened his eyes.

As he opened his eyes, Wu Yu felt the aura of a Yellow-Patterned Warrior.

That’s right, after the Blood Heart had entered his body, Xuan had not only successfully recovered his Totem Power, he had also broken through to become a Yellow-Patterned Warrior.

He now felt full of strength and an urge to unleash it.

He could also feel a vast and chaotic power coursing through his body that he had yet to absorb.

But he didn’t know how to absorb this vast power.

Once he had figured out what was happening to him, he leaped to his feet and turned his gaze to Little King Kong, who was crying out in pain.

Ou had just punched Little King Kong into a boulder, and its head had hit the rock first. It would have been excruciatingly painful if not for its helmet.

He looked around and didn’t see Wu Yu. Panic surged through him, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, Wu, where are you?

Wu Yu heard him and hurriedly replied, I’m here, I’m okay. After answering, he hurriedly continued replenishing his Soul Force.

Hearing that Wu Yu was okay, Xuan rushed towards Ou.

As soon as he took a step, he stepped on something. He looked down and saw that it was a weapon. He picked it up and tested it. It felt just right. With a roar, he charged at Ou, brandishing the weapon.

Ou heard Xuan’s roar and turned to look at him. He was shocked to see that Xuan had become a Yellow-Patterned Warrior.

Then he looked at the hide bag and understood what had happened. His expression turned ugly, and he let out a roar. He blocked Xi Ya’s sword and punched him.

Xi Ya saw that Ou’s punch was incredibly powerful, and the air whistled as it approached. He hurriedly used his Shield to block it.

But with a loud clang, he was knocked flying, Shield and all.

Ou didn’t even look at where Xi Ya had landed. He charged straight at Xuan, furious to see him holding his own weapon.

As Xuan ran, he tore off his Beast Skin and wrapped the ax handle with Beast Sinew.

This was something that Wu had specifically taught him. When facing an enemy, no matter how strong or weak, one must never let them take away one’s weapon.

As soon as he had secured his weapon, Ou reached him and punched him in the face.

Xuan hadn’t fought in a long time, but when he saw Ou’s fierce punch, he shouted, Bring it on! and swung his ax to meet it.

Even though Ou was a Blue-Patterned Warrior, he didn’t dare to meet Xuan’s ax head-on with his fist. Instead, he turned his punch into a grab and reached for Xuan’s oncoming ax.

Xuan saw Ou reaching for his ax and shouted again, Bring it on! He continued to swing at Ou without changing his attack.

Ou was secretly delighted to see that Xuan wasn’t dodging and was practically offering his ax to him.

He had been frustrated by the fact that he didn’t have a weapon, which had prevented him from capturing them for so long.

As expected, Ou caught Xuan’s ax with his hand, but he only grabbed the part near the ax head.

Seeing this, Xuan shouted, You’re asking for it! and released his grip slightly.

He hadn’t fought in a long time, and he couldn’t help but shout with every move he made. It made him feel like he was in a real fight, not a dream.

As soon as Xuan released his grip, Ou pulled back with all his might, while also moving his palm forward slightly.

However, what he had imagined didn’t happen. He wasn’t able to pull it back even a little.

Because Xuan had already gripped the handle again, and with his other hand, he struck the ax handle, causing the ax to accelerate forward.

The moment Xuan struck the hand holding the ax handle with his other hand, he slashed fiercely.

    Ah, my hand...

With a scream, Ou’s palm began to bleed.

Of course, it was just a palm injury, not a serious one.

Even so, it enraged him. After he had become a Blue-Patterned Warrior, he had rarely been injured to the point of bleeding.

The moment he released his hand, he leaped into the air and kicked Xuan in the chest with both feet.

Xuan had been so excited by Ou’s scream that he had forgotten himself.

It was because he had forgotten himself that Ou’s leaping kick had hit him squarely in the chest.

He was sent flying backward like a cannonball and crashed into a large rock behind him, sending shards of stone flying.

After kicking Xuan away, Ou checked his injury. He saw that his palm hadn’t been severed and that he could still move it freely. He leaped up and charged at Xuan again.

Xuan let out a painful cry as he hit the rock, but then he started laughing maniacally. He got up from the ground and shouted excitedly at Ou, who was charging at him, Come on!

    Chapter 357: Who Will Prevail

Sitting on the rock and replenishing his Soul Power, Wu Yu heard the excitement in Xuan’s voice and looked over at the direction where Xi Ya had fallen. He saw Xi Ya standing up from the darkness and climbing back up, so he felt much more at ease.

The reason why Xuan was so excited was because he had discovered that after being kicked by Ou, the energy that he was unable to absorb in his body had decreased quite a bit, while his Totem Power had increased slightly.

Now he understood that he needed external force to help him absorb the energy in his body, which was why he had shouted, Come on!

And so, a strange scene unfolded.

Every time Xuan attacked Ou, it looked fierce, but in reality, he was just asking to be punched or kicked by Ou. As long as he protected his vitals, Ou wouldn’t be able to kill him anyway.

And every time Xuan was knocked down, he would let out a cheer, which made Wu Yu wonder, Could it be that after Xuan recovered his strength, he triggered a Divine Ability that made him enjoy being beaten?

After Xuan was beaten up repeatedly, the chaotic energy in his body decreased quite a bit, but it was only about one-tenth of what it had been before.

At this time, Xi Ya and Little King Kong also surrounded them.

Seeing this, Xuan became anxious and shouted at them, All of you back off, go protect Wu, and let me deal with him.

Not only that, he also shouted at Wu, Wu, tell them to back off. I can handle this guy myself.

Wu Yu heard Xuan’s shouts and saw that he had just finished replenishing his Soul Power, so he climbed up, picked up the wind lamp, turned it up to the brightest setting, placed it on a high spot, and made a sound. Then he signed why to Xuan.

Xuan heard Wu Yu’s voice and naturally looked over. When he saw his sign language, he took advantage of the moment when Xi Ya and Little King Kong were fending off Ou and signed his reply to Wu Yu.

After Wu Yu learned of Xuan’s reply, he immediately gave Xi Ya and Little King Kong the order to defend.

Xi Ya and Little King Kong had no choice but to stand at a safe distance.

Little King Kong went straight to Wu Yu’s side.

Although Wu Yu had recovered his Soul Power, he didn’t dare guarantee that he could successfully use Soul Thorn or Soul Sound attacks.

And he didn’t dare try it now. If he succeeded and didn’t kill Ou in one blow, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Without Xi Ya and Little King Kong to interfere, Xuan was like a ball being kicked around by Ou.

Seeing this scene, even though Wu Yu knew what was going on, he couldn’t help but twitch his lips and feel a toothache.

Of course, thanks to the tremendous power that protected his body, Xuan was unharmed despite Ou’s beatings. Instead, his vigor kept climbing higher and higher.

As Xuan’s aura started to change, Ou naturally sensed something was off and questioned Xuan, Did you consume that Blood Heart?

Xuan laughed loudly and replied, You’re only realizing now? Isn’t it too late?

Too late? As long as you haven’t advanced to a Blue-Patterned Warrior, I can still kill you.

After saying this, Ou immediately abandoned his assault on Xuan and charged towards Wu Yu instead.

How could Xuan possibly let him go towards Wu Yu? Since his attacks couldn’t harm Xuan without weapons, just fists and feet, Xuan didn’t hesitate and threw himself at Ou.

Ou, increasingly irritated by Xuan, attacked him furiously, unleashing his full strength.

Being a Blue-Patterned Warrior, not only was Ou’s strength formidable, but his intelligence was also not to be underestimated. After aiming for a moment, he suddenly kicked Xuan in the chest, sending him flying like a cannonball directly into the dark river.

It was only after being kicked into the air by Ou that Xuan realized the problem, but it was already too late.

After a while, the sound of something falling into the dark river echoed.

Hearing Xuan fall into the dark river, Ou laughed maniacally at Wu Yu and the others, What will you use to fight me now?

The moment Xuan was kicked away, Xi Ya also leaped to Wu Yu’s side, holding a shield in front of him in a defensive stance.

After Ou’s maniacal laughter, Wu Yu coldly snorted, It’s still uncertain who will have the last laugh.

Ou didn’t waste any more words with Wu Yu and leaped from a high place towards them.

The moment he leaped, Wu Yu gave Xi Ya and Little King Kong a preparatory order.

As Ou was halfway through his leap, Wu Yu unleashed Soul Thorn at him.

Ou could be seen plunging headfirst into the ground from about ten meters away from them.

Without a doubt, Wu Yu’s Soul Thorn had successfully hit its mark.

Seeing this, Wu Yu couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, but he rapidly seemed to become debilitated, his body trembling uncontrollably.

It was evident he was overexerting his Soul Power.

The moment Ou fell to the ground, Xi Ya and Little King Kong both leaped into action.

Little King Kong aimed a slash at his neck.

    Xi Ya targeted his heart.

Xi Ya, being faster than Little King Kong, managed to thrust his meteorite sword unexpectedly into Ou’s left chest.

As soon as Xi Ya’s sword pierced Ou’s left chest, Ou snapped back to consciousness. After a brief pause upon seeing the meteorite sword in his chest, he surprisingly smiled at Xi Ya, placed his hands on Xi Ya’s shoulders, and delivered a knee kick, leaning backwards and narrowly avoiding Little King Kong’s incoming slash.

With that kick, he sent Xi Ya flying like a cannonball straight towards the dark river.

After propelling Xi Ya away, he also grabbed hold of Little King Kong’s legs.

Remarkable as ever, Little King Kong, despite being caught, swung his sword towards Ou’s eyes in retaliation.

To protect his eyes, Ou swung Little King Kong towards the dark river, sending him flying even faster than Xi Ya.

Little King Kong hit the cave wall before falling into the dark river, essentially joining Xi Ya in the plunge.

Seeing all this, Wu Yu drew his meteorite dagger and pounced towards Ou, who had landed on the rock.

At this time, survival depended solely on oneself.

Realizing that Ou hadn’t perished even with a meteorite sword wound to his left chest, Wu Yu suddenly thought that a very few individuals have their heart on the right side.

Ou might be one of those rare cases with his heart on the right side, though other factors couldn’t be ruled out.

Wu Yu didn’t want to delve into the reasons. Regardless, the undeniable fact was that Ou hadn’t been killed by Xi Ya’s meteorite sword.

After landing on the rock, Ou spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.

Although he wasn’t dead, his injuries were tremendously severe.

Xi Ya’s sword had pierced directly through his left chest, and had it not been for his status as a Blue-Patterned Warrior with extraordinary vitality, he probably would have been down for the count already.

When Ou saw Wu Yu charging at him, he let out a furious roar and lunged towards Wu Yu as well, yelling, Die!

Despite Wu Yu’s wealth of combat experience, he was helpless in the face of overwhelming power. He could only watch as Ou seized his dagger.

But he didn’t let go. If Ou were to take his dagger, he would probably meet a truly gruesome end.

Ou grabbed the dagger with one hand and reached for Wu Yu’s neck with the other.

Just then, the Golden Monkey sitting on Wu Yu’s shoulder and gripping tightly onto his clothes suddenly leaped up and swiped at Ou’s eyes.

Ou hadn’t expected the Golden Monkey to have such a move and could only block it with his hand.

Seizing the opportunity, Wu Yu gripped the dagger with both hands and yanked it violently.

Ou’s palm instantly began to bleed, forcing him to release the dagger.

Wu Yu didn’t retreat after Ou let go. Instead, he lunged at Ou’s right chest.

Since his left chest couldn’t be pierced, he would try the right chest.

At this point, Ou was using one hand to fend off the Golden Monkey and had been injured in the other hand. With a roar, he sprang up, his body flipping backwards in mid-air to become parallel to the ground, then kicked Wu Yu’s lower abdomen with full force.

This move not only allowed him to dodge Wu Yu’s attack, but also the Golden Monkey’s.

As expected, Wu Yu was sent flying backwards by Ou’s thunderous kick, crashing into the stone wall and falling into the dark river.

The Golden Monkey swiftly shot towards Wu Yu the moment he was kicked away, its speed like an arrow released from a bowstring. It grabbed Wu Yu’s clothes just as he fell into the dark river and plunged in after him.

Upon seeing Wu Yu fall into the dark river, Ou was momentarily stunned, then hurriedly took to the air.

The leader had specifically instructed that Wu Yu must be taken alive, or if that was not possible, his body must be recovered.

By the time he reached the dark river, Wu Yu was nowhere to be seen, only the river water roaring as it flowed downstream.

Just as he was about to pursue Wu Yu downstream, a figure suddenly leaped out of the water.

In a flash of cold steel, Ou’s head was severed from his body by the weapon in the figure’s hand. With a plop, it fell into the dark river, creating barely a ripple before vanishing without a trace.

The figure who had suddenly leaped out of the water was none other than Xuan.

After severing Ou’s head, he couldn’t help but pause in surprise, for he saw a blood-red light streaking towards his forehead.

He immediately understood that it was the so-called Blood Mark of the Barbarian Elephant Tribe.

But at this point, he no longer cared, for he had already broken through to become a Blue-Patterned Warrior.

He had to thank Ou for his breakthrough to the Blue-Patterned Warrior realm, as Ou’s full-force attack had completely converted his chaotic internal energy into Totem Power.

After collecting his thoughts, he soared into the air and landed on a massive boulder, then shouted into the cave, Wu, where are you? I’ve broken through to the Blue-Patterned Warrior realm, and I’ve slain Ou.

However, the only response from the cave was the endless echo of his voice and the roar of the raging river.

Wu, you mustn’t have met with any mishap...

Xi Ya, where the hell are you, you son of a b*tch? Scram out here...

Little King Kong, make a sound, will you...

    Golden Monkey...

He continued to call out their names, one after another.

When he received no response, he seemed to go mad. He first frantically searched through the dark river, and upon finding nothing, he made his way towards the wind lantern.

However, as soon as his hand touched the wind lantern, it flickered and died, plunging the stone cave into complete darkness.

    No...

Xuan let out a heart-wrenching cry.

Immediately, he began to grope around the cave, his hands trembling as he searched every inch of the ground, his voice filled with hysterical sobs.

His cries and sobs reverberated through the cave for a long time.

After who knows how long, the stone cave returned to silence, save for the roar of the rushing river, as if nothing had transpired there.

Chapter 358: As the Host Desires, So Does the Guest

When Wu Yu suddenly opened his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of four heads staring at him with starkly contrasting black and white eyes. Almost immediately, he was hit by an unpleasant smell.

The stench was a mix of sweat and bad breath.

Seeing him wake up, all four heads let out a surprised shout.

And Wu Yu was momentarily overwhelmed by their spittle.

Fortunately, the four heads soon moved away.

Wu Yu then realized he was lying in the snow. Just as he attempted to sit up, a sharp pain emanated from his lower abdomen, followed by a pain in his back.

The pain in his abdomen was from Ou’s kick, while the pain in his back resulted from hitting a rock.

After examining himself internally, he found only minor internal injuries, with no internal bleeding or broken bones. He then turned his attention back to the four people who had been surrounding him.

These four were not Totem Warriors, but ordinary people.

However, their physical condition appeared to be very strong, as they were only wearing linen clothes in this snowy weather and did not seem to be cold at all.

Yes, they were wearing linen, not beast skin.

Moreover, Wu Yu noticed that they were wearing shoes made from animal skin, but it was the skin of ordinary animals.

Each of them was holding a wooden spear, and one of the spears even had a carp about five fingers wide skewered on it.

Judging from their attire, their tribe seemed to have a certain level of civilization and had mastered basic life skills.

All four appeared to be quite young, probably in their twenties.

Seeing that they had no intention of helping him up, Wu Yu managed to sit up, grimacing in pain.

Even with his current injuries, Wu Yu felt confident he could handle these four, especially since he still had his meteorite iron dagger tightly gripped in his hand, which none of them had taken.

It might also be because he had been gripping the dagger so tightly that they couldn’t pry his fingers open to take it.

From what he could gather about these four, Wu Yu was certain this place was not on the edge of the Bloodsucking Forest, and he likely had already left the Zhumar Mountain Range.

Upon seeing Wu Yu sit up, all four took a step back, appearing somewhat fearful of him.

Wu Yu checked himself upon seeing their reaction and found nothing unusual, but when he tried to stand up, he failed.

The four of them started to move forward to help him, but then stopped.

Wu Yu couldn’t help but ask them, Where is this place?

Jiligula? one of them asked, looking confused.

When he heard the man speak, Wu Yu couldn’t help but curse inwardly, Damn, I can’t understand a word he’s saying. This language barrier is going to be a problem.

Wu Yu thought for a moment and then gestured to the man.

Of course, his gestures were simple, just indicating that they should help him up.

The four of them finally understood his gestures, and two of them cautiously approached and pulled him up.

Wu Yu was unable to stand up, not because of his injuries.

It was because he was frozen stiff. When he pinched his thigh, it felt as if it didn’t belong to him; he could hardly feel it.

If it weren’t for the fact that he could still wiggle his toes, he would have thought his legs had already died.

He didn’t know how long he had been unconscious after Ou’s kick, or where the river had carried him.

He only remembered losing consciousness after hitting the rock wall.

After standing up, Wu Yu’s vision became clearer, and he saw a stone wall in the distance with a large hole in it, from which water was flowing out.

He guessed that he had been carried out of that hole in the stone wall by the water.

He then looked around and realized that he was standing on a frozen river.

The water that flowed out of the cave had frozen into ice not far from the cave.

Wu Yu glanced at the four men and then at the river, and he understood that they must have been there to fish.

After a while, Wu Yu asked the two men to let go of him and tried to walk.

After taking only a few steps, he stumbled and fell onto the ice.

However, this time he was able to struggle to his feet on his own.

So, he started to walk back and forth on the ice.

After a long time, he was finally able to move freely.

He then remembered Bear Leopard, Xuan, Xi Ya, and Little King Kong, who had fallen into the underground river before him, and he gestured to the four men to ask about them.

He didn’t know if the four men understood him, but they just kept shaking their heads.

Seeing this, he could only give up. He walked forward a few steps and looked around the area where the water was pouring out, and at the snow on the ice.

Other than the footprints left by the four men when they came, there were no other footprints on the ice.

It seemed that the others had not been washed out of the cave by the water.

At this point, he felt a wave of hunger and couldn’t help but look at the carp that was speared on the man’s spear.

When the man saw Wu Yu looking at his fish, he took a step back and said something unintelligible to him.

Wu Yu couldn’t help but shake his head and smile wryly. He rubbed his stomach and looked at the unfrozen part of the river.

His eyes widened when he saw that there were many fish swimming in the water.

So, he gestured to the four men, asking them to use their spears to catch fish in the river.

The four men seemed to understand Wu Yu’s gestures. One of them took his spear and stabbed at a fish in the water.

Wu Yu realized why they were reluctant to give him the fish when he saw how the man was stabbing at it. Their technique was all wrong. They didn’t understand the principle of refraction, so they naturally couldn’t hit the fish.

Seeing this, he couldn’t help but gesture to the man, asking him to hand over the spear so that he could do it.

The man understood what Wu Yu meant, and after looking at the other three men and seeing one of them nod, he handed his spear to Wu Yu.

Wu Yu took the spear, weighed it in his hand, and then thrust it at a fish with force.

When he pulled the spear out of the water, there was a fish on it.

He took the fish off the spear, threw it to the man, and then thrust the spear at another fish.

Naturally, when he pulled it out, there was another large fish on it.

When they saw this, the four men all gathered around him, watching him spear fish with rapt attention.

Wu Yu naturally didn’t hold back and used sign language to communicate with the four men.

The four men watched Wu Yu’s gestures and demonstrations. Although they didn’t understand what refraction was, they did understand that they couldn’t stab the fish directly in the water, but had to approach it from a certain angle in order to hit it.

They had probably just gotten lucky the one time they had speared a fish, hitting the other fish by accident.

After Wu Yu taught the four men how to spear fish in the water, he returned the spear to the man, took a large fish, cleaned it with his dagger, removed the bones, and ate it raw.

Under the current circumstances, solving the problem of hunger was the most important thing.

The four men took their spears and excitedly started spearing fish in the water after learning the technique from Wu Yu.

Of course, they didn’t hit every time, but they were much better than before, with an accuracy rate of about twenty to thirty percent.

After solving the problem of hunger, Wu Yu went over to the four men and started teaching them hands-on.

After his careful instruction, the four men’s accuracy rate increased significantly, reaching sixty to seventy percent, which made them very happy.

The four men stopped spearing fish when they had caught almost all the fish they could see in the water.

Looking at the pile of fish on the ground, which numbered over a hundred, the four men actually knelt down in front of Wu Yu. Wu Yu was so startled that he quickly pulled them up.

The men were troubled by the large number of fish, as they didn’t know how to take them back.

Even if they filled their spears, there would still be many left.

Wu Yu realized the reason for their distress when he saw their helpless expressions, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. He gestured to them, telling them to go to the rock wall and get some tough vines.

After they understood what he meant, two of the men were about to go to the rock wall when Wu Yu saw the bone knives on their waists. He handed them his dagger and told them to use it to cut the vines, because he noticed that their bone knives were made from ordinary animal bones.

After a while, the two men returned with a large bundle of tough vines.

One of the men was very reluctant to return the dagger to Wu Yu.

Wu Yu only had his dagger and the Spirit Crystal on him now, and nothing else for self-defense, so he naturally couldn’t give it to them.

After taking the dagger back, he taught the four men how to string up the fish.

When they saw that they could string up so many fish using this method, the four men couldn’t help but smile with joy.

The four men carried the fish and saw that Wu Yu didn’t seem to be following them. They became anxious and all started chattering at him and waving their hands.

Wu Yu saw how enthusiastic the four men were, and since he had come to this unfamiliar place, he also wanted to learn more about the situation, so he followed them.

He guessed that the tribe where the four men lived probably didn’t have a Totem Warrior.

As long as they didn’t have a Totem Warrior, he had nothing to fear with his current strength.

This was the main reason why he was willing to follow the four men back.

He followed the four men to a place surrounded by mountains on all sides.

This was where their tribe was located. There were caves as well as some simple houses made of stone and wood.

Wu Yu had just followed the four men to the center when he saw two men carrying an old man’s body towards the largest rock wall.

Wu Yu glanced at the rock wall and saw a large cave there with smoke coming out of it. He wondered why they were carrying the body to the cave.

    However, he soon understood why.

The two men carrying the body saw the four men carrying so many fish, and their eyes instantly lit up.

At this moment, Wu Yu also saw the two men carrying the body. They were thin and malnourished.

Needless to say, they were carrying the body to eat it.

To confirm his guess, Wu Yu gestured to the four men.

After spending so much time with Wu Yu, they immediately understood what he was asking and all nodded.

If Wu Yu hadn’t encountered this situation, he wouldn’t have bothered, but since he had, he would intervene, because cannibalism was something that went against his moral values.

Of course, he wouldn’t use barbaric methods to stop them, but a gentler approach: he told them that he could solve their food problems.

The reason for cannibalism was naturally the lack of food, so as long as the food problem was solved, the problem would be solved naturally.

It took quite some effort for the four men to understand what Wu Yu meant, and then they spoke to the two men who were carrying the body.

Those two seemed to listen to the four men, as they turned back with the body.

Next, the four men led Wu Yu towards the large cave.

Upon reaching the cave, Wu Yu saw a large fire surrounded by dozens of people, about fifty or sixty, all stretching their necks and looking eagerly as someone approached the cave, almost as if they couldn’t wait.

Wu Yu also noticed that among these people, about a dozen had very thick necks.

Their necks all had large bulges, which was obviously a symptom of goiter.

Seeing the four men carrying so many fish, all the people around the fire started cheering happily.

Among those dozens of people, there was an old man with painted face, feathers in his hair, and a dark cane in his hand, who stood up abruptly when he saw Wu Yu following the four men, looking straight at him.

Wu Yu noticed the old man and smiled, nodding at him.

He saw that the old man did not possess Witch Power, but from his attire, he should be someone akin to a shaman in this tribe.

Indeed, upon seeing the old man stand up, the four men hurried to him and started chattering away, glancing at Wu Yu from time to time.

Wu Yu naturally understood they were talking about him to the old man.

He smiled, standing to one side, quietly observing everything.

After the four men finished speaking, the old man walked up to Wu Yu, switched his cane to his left hand, lifted his right hand across his chest, and bowed deeply to Wu Yu, almost at a ninety-degree angle.

Seeing this, Wu Yu understood it was their custom, and quickly mirrored the gesture in return.

Knowing they couldn’t communicate verbally, the old man made a gesture equivalent to please, inviting Wu Yu to sit beside him.

Wu Yu, of course, followed the host’s lead and sat next to him, then glanced over the people gathered around the fire.

Without exception, they all were thin and had a sickly appearance, mostly seeming very frail.

This made Wu Yu look towards the four men, because among them, their faces were not thin and sickly, but rather, they seemed rather healthy and radiant.

    This indeed puzzled Wu Yu.

Chapter 359: Teaching Them to Fish

Although Wu Yu had many questions, due to the language barrier, he couldn’t ask and could only rely on his own observations to try to understand the underlying issue.

After the old man said something to the four men, they distributed the fish to everyone, one for each person, even Wu Yu.

At this time, the two men who had carried the body returned, and after receiving a fish each, they rejoined the crowd.

Wu Yu couldn’t help but scrutinize the two men who had carried the body and found that their bodies were much stronger than most of the people present.

After everyone had received their fish, the old man stood up, holding his fish high.

Everyone followed his example and raised their fish.

Seeing this, Wu Yu also stood up and raised his fish, following local customs.

Seeing Wu Yu doing the same, the old man nodded at him and smiled slightly, then began to mutter something.

After he finished, everyone else followed suit.

To Wu Yu’s ears, it sounded quite organized.

Of course, Wu Yu understood that this was a form of prayer ritual, likely expressing gratitude to the heavens for providing them with food and sustenance.

After everyone had finished praying—let’s call it that for now—they each found a wooden stick and inserted it into the mouth of their fish, including the entrails, and roasted them over the fire.

Wu Yu naturally understood why they did this, as food was scarce, and they couldn’t bear to throw away any part of the fish.

Wu Yu didn’t follow suit and roast his fish like that. Instead, he took out his dagger, cut open the fish, removed the entrails, and then skewered it with his dagger and roasted it over the fire.

Sitting by the bonfire, Wu Yu did feel warm. This also showed that although it was snowing here and the river was frozen, it was still countless times warmer than the Flame Dragon Territory.

If it were as cold here as in the Flame Dragon Territory, many of these people would likely have frozen to death before they starved to death, because most of them were wearing only thin hemp clothing.

Through his observations, Wu Yu realized that it wasn’t that they didn’t want to wear clothes made of animal skins, but that they had limited animal skins.

As for those wearing animal skins to keep out the cold, they were the old man, several children, and several heavily pregnant women.

It was evident that surviving here, especially in such a cold season, was extremely difficult.

When they were roasting the fish, they didn’t add any salt, presumably because they didn’t have any.

Throughout the whole roasting process, they didn’t add any seasoning at all.

Once the fish was cooked, they didn’t care about how hot it was and began to eat it immediately. After they finished eating the roasted fish, they even slowly chewed and swallowed the fish bones, truly not wasting a single bit.

Wu Yu naturally didn’t do this. After he finished eating the roasted fish, he threw the fish bones into the fire. He was afraid that if he threw them on the ground, someone would pick them up and eat them, because the entrails that he’d thrown on the ground had already been picked up by someone and put on the fire to roast.

After everyone had finished eating the fish, the old man looked at Wu Yu with his cloudy eyes and began to speak and gesture to him.

Wu Yu understood at a glance that the old man was asking him how to hunt for food.

As for solving the issue of their food supply, Wu Yu naturally had a method.

So, he pointed to the hemp clothing on the four men and gestured and spoke to the old man.

That’s right, he wanted to use the hemp thread to weave a fishing net to catch fish.

The old man was indeed worthy of being their leader. After Wu Yu had finished speaking, he also understood what was going on and directed the four men.

After the four men heard this, they went outside.

And the people in the cave, after they had eaten their fill, also found a place to lie down.

Wu Yu had originally wanted to improve the heating situation for them, but on second thought, he decided to wait until they had solved the problem of their food supply before doing so, after all, it wasn’t that cold in the cave.

His choice of weaving fishing nets to catch fish was actually also a bit selfish: He wanted to wait for a while at the entrance to that cave to see if Xuan, Xi Ya, and the others would rush out of that cave.

Also, looking at this group of people, it was clear that they were very pitiful.

When Wu Yu had first seen them wearing hemp clothing, he had thought that they had a certain level of civilization, but he hadn’t realized that it was because they couldn’t hunt fierce beasts, and they had probably been forced by circumstances to gradually learn to weave clothes from hemp to keep out the cold.

That’s right, they were only using those hemp garments to keep warm, not to cover up.

A tribe of only fifty or sixty people who couldn’t even meet their basic needs of food and clothing could not speak of shame. They were merely struggling to survive and prolong their lives.

After a while, the four men returned with a lot of hemp.

Wu Yu took the hemp and pulled it hard. Finding that it was quite tough, he proceeded to teach everyone how to twist it into hemp rope.

Although twisting hemp rope looked simple, it took them a long time to learn.

After they had learned, Wu Yu asked the four men to bring back some large tree branches.

He wanted to use this to make a net frame.

When they had twisted enough hemp rope, Wu Yu taught them how to weave a fishing net.

As the saying goes, Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach him to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

And so, they began to weave fishing nets in the large stone cave.

When it got dark in the middle of the day, they roasted and ate all the fish they had brought back.

Once they had filled their stomachs, they continued to weave the fishing net.

Not until the next morning did they finally finish weaving a large fishing net.

To test the effectiveness of the fishing net, Wu Yu selected the young men who seemed to be the strongest among these people and had Zhou, Wu, Deng, and Wang take the lead and head towards the river.

During his time spent with them, Wu Yu had gradually learned their language, which was also due to his strong soul energy.

At the very least, he now knew the names of the four strong and powerful young men: Zhou, Wu, Deng, and Wang.

He also knew why these four were so strong and powerful: because their tribe’s food was given to these four men as a priority. This way, they would have the strength to find more food for the tribe.

When they reached the river, Wu Yu first took them to the entrance of the cave and looked around carefully. Seeing that there were no new tracks, he had Zhou and the others use their spears to catch the fish that they could see with their naked eyes. This would allow everyone to replenish their energy before using the net to catch fish.

When everyone had eaten their fill, he led them to the middle of the river, took out his dagger, and began to dig a hole in the ice.

Wu Yu spent a lot of effort before finally making a hole that was three meters long and three meters wide.

To his surprise, as soon as he opened the ice hole, fish began to jump out.

Wu Yu immediately understood that fish also needed to breathe underwater, and this ice hole that had just been opened naturally became a place where they could compete to breathe, so they would naturally jump up.

In a short while, many fish had jumped out onto the ice. The smallest ones were five fingers wide, and the largest ones were about as long as an arm.

When the fish stopped jumping onto the ice,

Wu Yu had Zhou and the other four men hold the rope of the fishing net and slowly lowered it into the ice hole.

This was the first time Wu Yu had tried this method of fishing, but judging from the number of fish that had jumped out of the ice hole, there should be no problem fishing in this way.

The large fishing net he had woven was a sleeve-type fishing net, about six or seven hundred meters long.

After they had completely lowered the fishing net into the water, they waited for a dozen minutes before slowly pulling it back up.

As the fishing net was slowly pulled out of the ice hole, Zhou and the others began to find it difficult.

Seeing this, Wu Yu had the rest of the people come to the ice hole to help pull as well.

When the fishing net had been pulled out of the ice hole for about ten meters, they saw that there were already fish inside.

Seeing this, Wu Yu couldn’t help but secretly heave a sigh of relief.

And Zhou and the others cheered when they saw that there were fish in the fishing net.

However, as the fishing net was slowly pulled out of the ice hole, they found it more and more difficult.

Of course, as more and more fish were pulled out of the fishing net, Zhou and the others couldn’t help but shout and use all their strength to pull. With so many fish, they would have enough to eat for a long time.

However, just as they were halfway through pulling the net out, a force suddenly pulled back, dragging the fishing net down into the ice hole for a dozen meters or so.

This shocked Zhou and the others so much that they let go and shouted to Wu Yu, Wu Yu, we’ve caught a fierce beast. Run!

Through their interactions with Wu Yu, they had learned that his name was Wu Yu.

After shouting, they turned and ran, not caring about Wu Yu or the fish that had been pulled out of the ice hole onto the ice.

Staying alive was the most important thing.

Seeing this, Wu Yu hurriedly shouted to them, Come back, I’m here, don’t be afraid.

Only then did Zhou and the others suddenly stop in their tracks. Half-believing and half-doubting, they ran back and grabbed the fishing net again.

After seeing them come back and grab the fishing net, Wu Yu stood at the ice hole, clutched his dagger tightly, and stared motionlessly at the opening.

Only after seeing Wu Yu standing there did Zhou and the others start to pull the fishing net.

To their surprise, when they pulled the fishing net, it became easier, as if some kind of force was helping to push it up from below.

Wu Yu naturally understood what was going on, but he shouted to Zhou and the others, Pull quickly, this fierce beast should be coming up to the surface.

Seeing that Wu Yu was not panicking at all, Zhou and the others gradually calmed down and pulled the fishing net with all their might.

When they pulled to the final stage, Wu Yu saw a huge fish head wrapped in the net being pulled out of the ice hole.

This large fish that was caught in the net was a fierce beast in the water. Wu Yu could not name it. Its fins were all tightly wrapped in the fishing net. Even though it was a fierce beast, it could not exert its strength.

And when Wu Yu saw this, just as it was being pulled out of the ice, he stabbed it in the middle of its head with his dagger. He did not even use Soul Thorn.

And after the large fish was stabbed by the dagger, it struggled violently. Zhou and the others were so frightened that they hurriedly pulled forward with all their might.

Even the most ferocious beasts in the water, especially those of the large fish type, would have no attack power once they left the water.

Zhou and the others were afraid because it was an instinctive fear of fierce beasts. They could not be blamed.

After stabbing the large fish, Wu Yu did not pull out his dagger. Instead, he used the dagger to rotate and drill into the fish’s head until the dagger was completely buried inside. Only then did he start to shake it left and right.

In fact, the best way to kill this kind of large fish beast was to hit it hard on the head. However, there was no such heavy hammer now, so Wu Yu had to use this method.

Fortunately, his dagger was made of meteorite iron, which could be considered sharp enough to cut through iron and mud. Stabbing the head of this large fish was naturally more than enough.

By the time Zhou and the others had completely pulled the fishing net onto the ice, the large fish had stopped moving. It was as dead as it could be.

And Wu Yu actually dug out a Fierce Beast Crystal from the head of this large fish.

Upon seeing this, Zhou and the others cheered. They then let go of the fishing net in their hands and ran over to surround the large fish and look at it.

They had no concept of beast crystals and were only interested in this large fish. They picked up the spears on the ground and began to stab at its body.

Of course, their spears could not pierce the body of the large fish.

After Zhou and the others had seen enough of the large fish, Wu Yu said to them, Since there are fierce beasts in this river, let’s hurry and take the fish we caught back, lest the night be long and full of dreams.

After hearing this, Zhou and the others immediately packed up and carried the fishing net back to the territory.

They returned to the territory at about noon.

The leader, the old man, saw that Wu Yu and the others had actually caught so many fish, including a large fierce beast fish. Even though he had lived for so many years, he was so surprised that his mouth fell open, and he could not close it for a long time.

After a long time, he finally bowed to Wu Yu. With tears in his eyes, he opened his mouth to speak to Wu Yu, but not a single sound came out.

After a while, he finally uttered a sound, Wu Yu, we don’t know how to thank you. If there’s anything in our tribe that you like, just tell me, and I’ll give it to you.

Wu Yu smiled slightly and replied, Leader, when I find something that I need, I’ll let you know. How about that?

It was not that Wu Yu was being polite, but that he had not stayed here for long. Other than seeing that they had no food to eat, he had not yet discovered anything in their tribe that was worth having. That was why he had answered that way.

The old man laughed heartily after hearing Wu Yu’s reply and asked the tribesmen to help Zhou and the others carry the fish.

Wu Yu said to the old man, Leader, put all these fish in the snow. That way, they can be preserved longer. When you need to eat them, just take out one. These fish will be enough for so many of us to eat for a long time.

The old man nodded after hearing this and directed Zhou and the others to carry the fish to a place closer to the entrance of the cave. He had them take out the fish and arrange them neatly on
