Yay! It’s a call from Gramma! I know because I just finished choosing special ringtones for my frequent callers. I chose a tune from an old puppet show that Gramma is crazy about. (Yes, I have my own cell phone! BUT, only for important calls. And no games. And no phones at mealtime!)
Hi, Gramma,
I answered. Have you rigged up a plan?
Howdy, Charlotte,
Gramma said. We need to have a huddle with Johnny Five. Ask your mom if you can come over. I’ll give Johnny Five a buzz.
We got the thumbs up so Johnny Five and I hopped on our bikes and got to Gramma’s at exactly the same time.
Gramma was ready for us with all the ingredients necessary for a huddle.
I probably should fill you in on a few things in case we haven’t met yet.
Gramma is my best friend; we’ve been friends ever since I was born – that was nine years ago. Johnny Five and I are cousins. He’s nine also. We live in the same town as Gramma, so we get together a lot. Boy-oh-boy do we have fun. And this is one of those fun days.
OK Kidlets. Here’s the deal,
she said as we gathered at her kitchen table that had a mountain of fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies that were calling us by name. Look at this!
Gramma said as she held up a big, colorful advertisement that pictured beautiful horses running on a racetrack. Want to go?
Go where?
Johnny Five asked as cookie crumbs fell from his full mouth.
Gramma wiggled the ad – her head tipped; her eyebrows raised; her lips curved up to her sparkling eyes.
Huh?
I
