For My Kingdom, For My Son
Eliaux’s body has been failing him for the past century and a half. He had expected a shorter lifespan from the lengths he needed to go in order to protect his kingdom.
At first, he believed he could shake off the pain in his joints. It got more difficult to hide his pain once he reached the top of a staircase, and his son would be looking up at him with wide, worried eyes.
Something Eliaux hated to admit was that he was grateful for his failing eyesight, so he wouldn’t be able to see Isidoret’s despairing face. Isidoret grinned and crossed his arms. The grey elves will be more amicable if we greet them with smiles instead of frowns.
King Aumeric shook his head. I agreed to be civil, nothing more.
Isidoret looked at Eliaux expectantly, prompting an eye roll.
I’ll hold my tongue.
A defeated sigh passed Isidoret’s lips. Better than nothing I guess.
The doors to the throne room opened, revealing the knight commander flanked by two knights.
Your Majesty, they’ve arrived.
Aumeric stood from his throne and nodded. Then I shall welcome them.
He glanced
