Life Changes Fast - Bridgitte Lesley

    CHAPTER 1

Lancaster and his men left at three in the morning. It was pitch black and deathly quiet as they walked out of the bunkhouse. They didn’t make a sound. Lancaster looked down as he saw a basket and a cooler bag for their trip. He picked it up and loaded it in to the Jeep. They drove with their lights off trying not to wake anyone. He reached the gate which was closed. Lancaster was just about to jump out when someone opened it for him. He waved and the ranch hand waved and vanished in to the shadows. Seen some dark times, that family.

Many of them Cutler. It has united them and made them even stronger.

Lancaster travelled all day until midnight. Clear your minds. Block everything out and focus. The child who has been kidnapped is five years of age. His name is Darrell. He is being held hostage. I am told he is in the basement in that building over there. He pointed and Jeeves shook his head.

Keep going, Cutler. He is not in that building. Go to the end of the road and turn left. The second house on the right, Jeeves said.

Lancaster drove past the house and parked around the corner. They climbed out and made their way to the house. They had their normal earpieces intact and spoke to each other as they moved in the dead of night. Two men and a woman. Darrell, the youngster, has been locked in the bedroom. Should we take out the adults first and fetch the little boy, or just fetch him? Brighton asked.

Fetch him and let the FBI take care of the rest, Lancaster said. They quietly entered the house and Lancaster walked through to the bedroom and lifted Darrell from the bed and held him in his arms. They walked out of the house with the adults being none the wiser. Lancaster drove to the parents’ home and was in contact with the FBI. The FBI quietly moved in and the adults were taken in to custody.

Beth ran out and took Darrell in to her arms. Did they hurt you?

No, Mom, Uncle Chad was there with Aunt Dee, and Uncle Joe as well.

Beth stared at him. Daddy's brother, his sister and her husband?

    Yes.

She looked at Lancaster. Wait right here. She walked inside carrying Darrell and put him straight in to bed. She walked in to the lounge where her husband sat innocently. She walked to the three briefcases that were ready and waiting to be dropped off the moment the kidnappers let them know where.

    Beth! What are you doing?

She looked at her husband in disgust. Arrest my husband. You swine! How could you! Kidnap your own son?

Beth almost marched out of the house and handed Lancaster the three briefcases. My husband definitely does not deserve this. Lancaster took the briefcases. Thank you for saving my son.

Lancaster looked at the briefcases. Ma’am?

All yours. That is the ransom money for the kidnappers. Who on earth kidnaps their own son for a million? That clause is coming straight out of my insurance policy. Not to worry. That is my money and by tomorrow morning, his company will be shut down and every cent paid back to me. Know of any good divorce lawyers? Lancaster grinned as he looked at her. I guess now is time to do what I should have done years ago. Now spend it wisely. When I get mine, I most definitely will. She walked inside and Darrell walked to the door.

Thank you. Lancaster smiled as he looked at Darrell and winked and they went straight to the Jeep. The FBI
