At 3pm, Buck came by and signed the papers. She apologized for her boyfriend's behavior, but he quickly changed the topic, giving her his phone number and telling her to call when she arrived. It would take a few weeks for everything to be finalized, but it seemed that he had already made himself at home. The procedures didn't matter much to her—it was all just a waiting game.

She had also finished and filed her own paperwork. It wouldn't take nearly as long for her, since she was a Chinese citizen. Yet, unlike Buck, her apartment was completely empty. She wouldn't be able to live there until she moved her bed and birds.

After leaving work, she tossed the book she had rediscovered into her old backpack and headed home. Her parents hadn't gotten back yet, so she was alone. She checked on her birds, giving them fresh food and water, and spent about an hour playing with them. She gave them treats, some new toys she had ordered, and took a few videos of them to post online.

Before leaving, she took a quick shower and changed her clothes. She put on a thin white shirt with a wide neck, which had six buttons going down the front, stopping just above the neckline edge of her black bra, and some blue jeans. Since you could see her bra straps, she slipped a jean jacket on over it, and finished the look off with a gold necklace and earrings. She also put her hair up into a ponytail using a thick red ribbon, which she tied into a bow.
