    Chapter 1: The Beginning

The memory was vivid in his mind as he sat inside the Air Force C-130, parked on an airstrip in Kuwait. The night was hot, the darkness seemingly painted with black tar. As he sat with an M-4 carbine rifle resting between his knees, he couldn’t help but think back to a simpler time.
