About this ebook

A Battle of Wits! is what it means. It was a battle getting help for myself. Finally, I was listened to and the rest is history. Juggling a new medication into my daily life, getting used to a new regime and the result that ensued. My mental health improved, my confidence grew and I began to get used to a new way of living. Before the change in meds, I was living like a zombie with no real direction. My hobbies and interests had slipped away and I didn’t want to socialize. Now I’ve got it all back and will strive to get others off that medication if they so wish. I describe what it felt like to be sedated. I explain the process that took place as I got used to a new medication. I was able to think about voluntary work for the first time in many years.

    Prologue

This book is about the changes that came about going from one depot to another and the progresses that I made.

Suddenly, my life was opening up to new possibilities and a new start.

Almost a moment-to-moment account of life as it is now.

I have included the titles of songs that have inspired me.

    TRY AGAIN!

    Chapter One

    The Beginning

If you’ve never had a Schizoaffective Disorder, then you won’t understand what I go through day after day. One day feeling absolutely fine, going along nicely, then WHAM, everything goes hay wire again. It’s a battle of wits to keep going. I struggle at first, then the depression takes a hold. It’s like it goes from the top of my head down to my feet!

‘At the moment it’s resting on my shoulders but I know

It’s just a matter of time before it reaches my feet –

Then I’m in trouble. No eye contact, no make-up, no

Drive, no ambitions, no way forward.’

Firstly, it was put on a depot (injection) of Flupenthixol and immediately I felt sedated, so they lowered the dose to 25mg weekly, which seemed to suit me. But I still felt sedated
