    What is xG and Why Does it Matter?

    Forget just counting shots. xG goes beyond quantity to assess the quality of a scoring opportunity. It takes historical shot data into account, considering various factors like:

    Shot Location: The Prime Real Estate of xG

    A shot taken close to the goal has a higher xG value than one taken from a long distance.

    Imagine the goal as a divided zone, with some areas being much more likely to result in a goal than others.

    This is essentially how Shot Location is factored into xG.

    Here's a breakdown:

    Golden Zone:

    The area closest to the goal, typically around the six-yard box (the small rectangle in front of the goal).
