This story is told from my heart. Before becoming a dog owner, I did not understand the range of emotions or depth of feelings they experience. I have learned that dogs experience joy, sadness, grief, fear, jealousy, love, devotion, and loyalty. A dog’s love and devotion are constant and never falter. A dog is always happy to see you when you come home, even if you’ve only been gone for 10 minutes. If you take a dog into your home and your heart, that dog will be your friend for its entire life. Lifelong friends who are devoted and loyal are hard to come by and should be treasured, cherished, and loved.

My name is Archie, and I was born on a farm in Ohio in the lovely month of April. Five humans live on the farm; the big humans are Dana and Tom, and the smaller ones are Eddie, Maria, and Hanna. There are lots of animals on the farm, including cows, pigs, goats, dogs, and cats. My mother is a Bernese Mountain Dog named Honey Bee. She has a beautiful black, brown, and white coat of fur. My father is a black Standard Poodle with some white markings; his name is Domino. That makes me a ‘Bernedoodle.’

Tom said I got my long legs, curly hair, and good looks from my father. Dana said I got my kindness, shyness, and gentle manners from my mother. We were a litter of six pups, and I have four brothers and one sister. My brothers are Sky, Sox, Toffee, and Joey. My sister’s name is Daisy. Daisy is the smallest pup, and the humans call her the runt of the litter. I’m allowed to run, wrestle, and play tug of war with my brothers, but everyone protects Daisy from all the rough play because, according to the humans, Daisy is the smallest and very delicate.

Maria is my favorite human because she always plays with me and hugs and kisses me. Eddie is cool because he brings a ball outside and throws it all the way across the field for me to fetch. Hanna is great because if I give her my paw, she gives me delicious treats. I love my dog and human families, but out of everybody, Sox is
