"He pulled me up by my arm, the roughness of his grip sending jolts of pain through my shoulders. My arms were already tied tightly behind my back, the rope biting into my wrists. Panic surged through me as he guided me out of his office, every step a struggle against the bonds that held me. I couldn't see anything—he had blindfolded me—but I could feel the weight of the stares from the people around us. Their silence felt deafening, each unspoken word a reminder of my helplessness. CHAPTER 1

Becky took a deep breath as she stepped into the swanky office building that housed the empire of Jay Ruin. She'd never been in a place like this before, where rushed executives flitted from meeting to meeting, bumping past you with barely a glance. The grand entrance was an awe-inspiring sight, a futuristic and sleek space packed with polished oak furniture and centered around a breathtaking, breathtaking fountain.

Becky felt a shiver of excitement down her spine as she realized the significance of her new position. She was no longer just a small-town girl; she was an integral part of an elite corporation.

She approached the reception desk, her heels clicking against the marble floor. The receptionist, a stylishly dressed woman in her mid-thirties, looked up and greeted her warmly. You must be Becky Smith. Welcome to Ruin Enterprises! Her smile was genuine, and her voice had the perfect amount of enthusiasm that put Becky at ease.

I'm Marianne, Mr. Ruin's executive assistant. He's waiting for you in his office. It's on the top floor—you can't miss it. Let the elevator know you're headed to the penthouse suite.

Wring her hands nervously, Becky replied, Thank you, Marianne. I hope I can live up to the job expectations.

Oh, I'm certain you will, she said with a subtle wink as Becky turned to locate the elevator.

Just remember to take everything one step at a time.

Becky forced a smile as she digested Marianne's ambiguous advice. The elevator doors opened, and she stepped in, entering her floor destination with a jittery finger. During the short ascent, she went over the day's events in her mind—the orientation, the introductions, and, of course, the meeting with Jay Ruin himself.

The elevator chimed, announcing her arrival at the penthouse floor.

The doors slid open, opening up to an expanse of wealth and exclusivity. A plush waiting area, complete with velvety chairs and an abstract painting adorning the wall, greeted Becky.

Marianne had been right; she couldn't miss the entrance. Straight ahead, Jay Ruin's door stood half-open, revealing a sliver of the man himself. Becky smoothed her skirt and hair before crossing the threshold.

Stepping inside his corner office, she was instantly awestruck by the impressive city view through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Amidst the sea of skyscrapers, Jay Ruin's presence commanded attention, radiating an air of quiet confidence as he stood near the window with a phone pressed to his ear.

As she hesitantly cleared her throat, their eyes met, and beckoned her in while ending his call.

Ah, you must be Becky Smith, my new executive assistant, Jay greeted, extending his hand. Please, have a seat.

She took a deep breath and collected herself. "Yes, Mr. Ruin.

Lord Ruin, as the office whispers had it. The mere name sent a bolt of anticipation down my spine.

I shook his offered hand, my palm clammy compared to his confident grip. Nice to meet you, sir.

He smiled, a subtle hint of wickedness in his eyes, and gestured to a chair across from his imposing mahogany desk. Please, have a seat. So, I presume you know the nature of our arrangement?

I faltered, confusion marring my brow.

Your 'arrangement'? I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what you mean, Mr. Ruin.

Jay Ruin's smile remained confident, but it transformed into something more calculated. Come now, Miss Smith. You know very well that being my assistant extends beyond the traditional scope of answering my phone and scheduling appointments. I expect a certain level of companionship, as well, he divulged, leaving me stunned.

My thoughts raced as I pieced together Marianne's previously cryptic message.

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure in front of a man whose reputation preceded him. I see. Might I inquire about the particulars of this 'companionship'? I asked, hoping to pry a bit more information out of him.

Jay leaned forward, his elbows on the polished desk, and tented his fingers. Becky, I appreciate your curiosity. But for now, let's just say that it involves a full-service approach to personal assistance. He paused, giving me a chance to absorb his words.

But a million questions raced through my mind. I wondered how far I was willing to go and if I would be able to separate my professional and personal boundaries.

Jay Ruin's gaze lingered on me, his eyes filled with an intensity that revealed there would be no room for misinterpretation. "As my personal assistant, you will spend time with me both in and out of the office. We are going to cultivate a close relationship, and I prefer to be transparent about these matters.

My expectations may seem unconventional, but I assure you, discretion is of the utmost importance. May I trust that you are capable of keeping our relationship private?"

A ripple of fear coursed through my veins as I began to understand the gravity of what was required from me. I was suddenly aware that I stood on a precipice, unsure of whether to retreat to safety or take the plunge into the unknown.

Understood, Mr. Ruin I will respect your privacy, I murmured, forcing myself to maintain eye contact with him.

I gripped the arms of my chair, searching for an anchor as I was tossed about in a sea of uncertainty.

Very good, he replied, easing back into his own seat. All signs of vulnerability vanished, replaced once again by a steely, business-like demeanor. He resumed talking as if we were discussing rather mundane details of contracts and deadlines.

"We have a full schedule this week, and I expect you to accompany me to all official events and meetings. In the meantime, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the files pertaining to my current projects.

You will find them neatly labeled and stored in my digital file system. Additionally, Marianne will brief you further on office protocols, so you'll be well-prepared for any eventuality.

As for tonight, I am hosting a grand opening party for one of our latest ventures, the Indigo Lounge, a premium nightclub that caters to an affluent clientele. I'd be delighted if you attended as my guest of honor. Don't worry; it will give us an opportunity to get to know one another outside the confines of the office.

And, of course, when our personal entertainment concludes, we can retire to the comfort of my penthouse suite to further discuss work matters," Jay added, his voice dripping with reserved charm.

Becky, still reeling from the unexpected revelations of her new
