About this ebook

Step into the shadowy forgotten wilderness populated by shaggy cryptids—unseen, unheard, and unsmelled by humankind. The misty forest conceals the big-footed, big-hearted Gogg family of six hair-covered, yarn-collecting, treehouse-dwelling Sasquatches and their growing menagerie of rescued Squatch Pets.

The Goggs have run out of space in their cramped treehouse. Every nook and cranny is overstuffed with Bob's fiber engineering equipment and Mim's fanciful filaments and medicinal remedies. Their four Squatchlings are always tripping over each other and breaking into squabbles over where to hang their hammocks and the lack of bigtoe room.

Trew, the oldest Gogg son, sets out on a mission to find them a new home. His quest leads him to the perfect place, but he discovers a dangerous dilemma. Trew and his dad put their heads together and devise a solution, with Trew taking the lead as his dad's apprentice. While the two engineers are hard at work, Trew glimpses an itty-bitty critter in peril and swings into action. Will the brave rescuer get there in time?

Trew's younger sisters, Nan and Viv, and kid brother, Pip, have exciting escapades of their own and come across their own helpless creatures in jeopardy. How will they react when lives could be at stake?

Catch a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of this rather large hairy family and their friends, much like yours and mine, in their mysterious wildlands home. These fascinating beings navigate the joys and trials of life together in the remote backcountry where humans rarely set foot.

This middle grade chapter book is written for slightly advanced readers ages 8-11 (grades 3-5). Also perfect for parents or teachers to read aloud to their Squatchlings ages 5-11, or for grandparents to read to their Grandsquatches.

Squatch Pets: Sasquatch Yarns & Tails is family-friendly and entertaining for all ages—true believers in Sasquatch or the simply intrigued, and those who enjoy a good yarn.

End-of-the-book features: Some Squatchy Shenanigans, Dos and Don'ts with Sasquatches, and ten bonus Dis"Squatch"sion Questions.

Four additional children's books are in the works for author Trace Holt, including two more in her new Squatch Pets series.

Do Sasquatches really exist? Your curiosity will be captivated by these Bigfoot legends!

    Into the Woods

Long, long ago humans and Sasquatches lived alongside each other in friendly harmony. I’m not pulling your leg. Sasquatches were quite literally the humongous among us. Over time, however, we drifted apart when humans tamed the land and became busier. Our hairy neighbors transformed into a distant memory, and we are left trying to piece together a puzzling mystery.

You may hear some people call these hair-covered cryptids Bigfoot or other names such as Yeti, Abominable Snowman, Skunk Ape, or Yowie. Cryptids are any living creature that cryptozoologists—people who search for and study cryptids—believe may exist somewhere in the wild, but their existence is unproven by science.

Sasquatches are fascinating individuals. Did you know that all Sasquatches possess a great fondness for yarn? Ever since humans and Squatches have co-existed, the much hairier beings have envied humans’ multicolored spun fibers. Any time a person rambles in the woods and snags their sweater or mittens, a Squatch is not far behind to gather any bits that may remain. They wind up these scraps and pack it all around in a haversack.

One more thing to note, Sasquatches do not have a written language. They are storytellers. Fortunately for us, some of their stories have been preserved under curious circumstances and have been passed on here in this book. Follow along as we read about one particular Sasquatch family, their rescued pets, and their mysterious lives in the untamed wilderness.

    Trew Meets Mews

Trew Gogg, an industrious young Sasquatch, lit out early on a brisk spring morning to scour a wide region of the deep forest. Sticks snapped under his hairy bigfeet, and wetness from the morning dew clung to him with every youthful stride.

His parents had sent him on an important mission—to scout out a new home for their family. With each breath of the crisp air, his chest inflated with pride in his task. The thought, Maybe I not find good house, crept in, but he pushed it away.

His dad and mom, Bob and Mim, had talked about moving into a larger treehouse for a while now. One that came with more bigtoe room where they wouldn’t always be tripping over each other. Their homey abode had become overstuffed with the belongings of this shaggy household of six, which constantly caused squabbles to break out amongst their four Squatchlings.

While out and about, Trew took some time and dropped in on his beloved elderly cat friend, Rax, and brought him some fresh fish he had caught that morning using grubs as bait. He faithfully visited his senior Squatch Pet whenever he got the chance.

Rax spent his golden years taking it easy and soaking up the sun on a slow-paced farm. Keeping to the shadows of the farmer's barn, Trew scratched Rax under his graying chin and whispered, Fluffy kitty, to him. Rax blinked lazily at his favorite friend in the world, then stretched and purred contentedly on a warm patch of grass with his belly full of fish.

Trew adopted Rax years ago as his pet Catsquatch when the homeless kitty followed him home one day. The cat had been stalking a trailing strand of yarn behind the unsuspecting Squatch. The pair spent many merry years together, but Rax was getting on in years. His creaky bones became too chilled to stay in the shadowy forest.

Trew missed palling around in the woods with Rax. Whenever the two spent time together it was hard for Trew to say goodbye, but he loved Rax and wanted what was best for him. After a lengthy visit with Rax, Trew needed to shake a leg and get going. He hit the trail again on his mission.

Pausing by a crystal-clear mountain stream, he knelt for a refreshing drink as the temperature rose. His stomach growled, so he snacked on some nuts he had
