Chapter 1: Integrating Crystal Magick into Wicca
If one is exposed to the term crystals
in the context of new age and neo-pagan meditation, healing, and magical practices, it may be referring to many objects such as stones, minerals, and metals. Although crystal-based magic might seem like an innovative practice, it is actually as old as the idea of the goddess and magic itself.
For Wiccans, using the gifts of the Earth to perform rituals and incantations is second nature. In addition, discovering the mysterious connections between gemstones, minerals and metals is a passion and can be a great addition to your collection, as well as the book of shadows, with new methods of using nature and the world around us in magic.
If we consider the chemical structure and even the origins of crystals it becomes clear how these aspects influence their energy, and how this energy influences our environment, our creative work, and even our minds and bodies. Using crystals within Wicca can bridge the gap between magic and science and magic; something that many people believe is just another part of research unexplored by traditional scientists, but of immense importance to scientists, philosophers, and chemists of the past.
A Brief Overview of the God and the Goddess
In Wicca and numerous other neo-pagan religions it is believed that worship centers around an idea that the universe can be divided into two types of energy which is the divine feminine as well as the divine masculine. For every form of life both forms are present in most of our lives, one is dominant over the other (although this is not the case with every living thing, and even deities of all kinds, with the agender god Inari Okami of agriculture being a good example).
The Goddess is the planet we live on and Mother Earth. She created all life on Earth and oversees it by feeding the planet with her constant nourishment and energy. The Goddess is worshipped in three different phases and each reflects our lives as women and men.
The Maiden. She is bold, courageous and unafraid of new adventures and new challenges. She animates the frozen earth in winter and inspires the sleeping seeds to grow through the earth and awaken under the gaze of the Sun. The Maiden appears during Imbolc, which is the Sabbat that begins the normal year, as well as the third Sabbat of the pagan year, in addition to Ostara, where we commemorate the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
The Maiden is the one we rely on to help us with new choices and whenever it is necessary to be strong, as well as brash and brave. She is a fighter and a trailblazer, as well as a best friend and confidant.
The Goddess is second to the Mother. In the role of Mother, She fulfills her role as Creator. She unites with God and brings life back to the earth after the sleep of winter. Mother Mary gives us blessings through the animals of the earth and ocean, the crops of the fields and the wild forage of the forest. Her nourishment is a source of vitality and that is why we celebrate her at least 8 times a year during each Sabbat.
It is never a bad occasion to invoke the Mother Goddess. Whether it is Isis, Freya, Selene and Yemaya Mother of the Corn, Hathor or Hecate, it is possible to connect with the Mother Goddess to receive guidance, spiritual nourishment, balance and de-stress or simply to be surrounded by the loving presence of the divine feminine that surrounds our bodies, making us feel happy and safe.
The Goddess of Motherhood is worshipped throughout the year and especially during Beltane and Litha, which is when abundance and fertility are at their peak and the landscape is awash with beauty and abundance.
The Goddess is revered in the form of Crona and as such is known as the village elder, the matriarch, the beloved grandmother and the wise old hag. She is the mysterious lady who lives in the forest and who, if we are willing, will give us wisdom and enlightenment and fill our bellies with sweets and tea.
The energy of the Goddess Crona is, frankly, overwhelming. Crona is a maiden and a mother, which means she knows the milestones that occur and is able to offer us advice on these milestones. She has also been a warrior, a trickster, a medicine woman and a wizard. The Crone is the one who has created civilizations, and may even have destroyed them as well. She has been placed in a position and is happy to
