Lost in Confusion - Lauren Marie

    Excerpt from Lost in Confusion

    M aggie, he said.

No reply. Jax felt his eyebrows come together and couldn’t figure out what happened to his woman. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and hit number one. He’d programmed her number in years ago. A voice said the number your trying to reach is not available. Try again later. Pushing number two, he started to walk out of the apartment.

Shimmy-Trick Tattoo. This is Kit, how can I help you?

    Hey sis. Is Mags there?

No. Aren’t you picking her up?

Did she say anything to you about moving?

No. Jax, what’s going on? You sound funny.

Kit, do me a favor, he said and went to his motorcycle throwing his leg over the seat. Call Marcus over at the cop-shop and tell him to meet me in the parlor.

    Chapter One

The air around Maggie felt heavy, and even the bed, sheets, and pillow didn’t feel right. The pajamas she wore were wrong as she never wore anything to bed. Opening her eyes, she glanced around the room and didn’t recognize anything. Something was definitely wrong.

Sitting up, she swung her feet over the side of the bed and looked over her shoulder. A man with blond hair lay on his side sleeping. She jumped up and tumbled onto the floor.

What the fuck is going on? She thought. She didn’t know who the man was or why he slept so soundly.

Maggie looked at her hand and her left ring-finger wore a strange band that she didn’t recognize. She walked to the window and looked out. There was nothing familiar—a house next to this one, the yard below was well-kept, lawn furniture and a grill were on the patio.

Turning around, she looked down at her body. The tank top she wore had hearts all over it and the only thing she recognized was her black panties. Those she knew.

Hey. Hey you. Wake up. She pushed the mattress on the bed with her bare foot.

The man rolled onto his back and yawned. Hey, sweetheart. What’s the matter?

What’s the matter? Who the hell are you? she snarled.

That’s funny. Did you have a nightmare? He sat up and stretched. Putting his hands on his lap, he smiled at her.

No, I’m serious. I don’t know you nor do I know where I am. What is this place?

He frowned at her. Are you joking?

Crossing her arms, she leaned on one foot and tried to keep from screaming. No. Who are you?

Sweetheart, I’m your husband and you’re in our house. What’s happening? He stood, wearing only boxer briefs.

Maggie pushed past him when he started moving toward her and went to what looked like a closet.

Husband? That’s impossible. I’ve never seen you. Opening the door, she looked at the clothes hanging in the dark and started to feel sick. She didn’t recognize anything. Where were her jeans and boots? Her Arizona T-shirts were missing, too. She was pissed. I need my clothes. She turned and looked at him.

"Those are your clothes. Did you hit your head or something? He took a step toward her, again, and put his hand out. Sweetheart, I don’t understand."

    "Since when
