About this ebook
Being a single parent is one of the most difficult jobs someone can find themselves performing. The church and society view the sole mother or father as at a disadvantage without a partner. This is a myth, and this work exposes the doctrinal falsehoods taught in the church concerning single parenting. On the contrary based on Biblical teachings and two exemplary single parent examples the Bible provides, you will discover that in the eyes of God being a single parent is a strength and not a weakness. In addition, this book looks at the negative issues in a two-parent household that a single parent does not face. If you are a single parent who has been divorced, widowed, or abandoned by your mate, this book is for you. In it are the keys to being a successful parent, along with what the Bible teaches is your strength in your role despite the pain from your loss of a mate, and your children their other parent.

1 SINGLE PARENTING MYTHS
I am a single parent. My former husband died of an alcohol and drug overdose reaping havoc on our entire family. Not only at his death but his actions during the final years of his life. As a single parent I felt at a disadvantage, after all a two-parent home was what God intended. This is essentially what is taught in the church. The absence of a father or mother causes all kinds of problems. I faced many of those that one deals with when a father is missing. In addition, I had to face them alone.
Homes Missing Either Mothers or Fathers
While my home missed a father, I read of the situations where a mother died while her children were young, leaving the dad as a single parent. In addition to father’s who lived in situations where the mother was addicted and abandoned the family. A home without a mother is just as difficult as a home without a father. The job for any single parent doubles in workload. Moreover, when pastor’s would refer to me and my children as a family, on the contrary it was more like no longer a family.
Cleaning Up After Another Parent’s Sin
In mine I felt as if it was my husband’s sin that wreaked so much havoc and I was left to clean up the mess from it. Our son descended into alcoholism and our daughter into serious mental health issues and addiction. From police at the door to hospitalizations I went through it all.
While two parent households experienced the calm of their home, mine had unpredictable chaos. It seemed a hopeless situation. One with loss after loss. My daughter’s issues were so severe that she seemed destined for tragedy. By the time she was 17 she had been hospitalized 27 times. I had not known that she started to use drugs, which was
