After she does, he turns her life upside down by getting her into designer drugs. During her trip, she sees two beautiful women that seem to be slipping in and out of reality as she does.
Now she's trying to solve their decades-old case, which everyone believes is closed, while fumbling with a newfound drug addiction and a playlist that knows just a little too much. She must get to the bottom of it before she becomes a victim herself.
Calypso Carlile's debut, which is based on her own experiences as a college radio DJ, offers a fresh perspective on topics like:
- dating in today's age
- party culture
- the harsh realities of addiction
With her youthful vocabulary, honest delivery, and ability to keep you guessing until the very end, you won't want to put this book down! Some readers were even able to read the book in one sitting!
Come take a trip through Alyse Hendrix's mind. Don't be afraid to stay awhile.
Calypso Carlile
Calypso Carlile is a badass. Plain and simple. She's done a bit of everything: actor, singer, dancer, director, radio DJ, teacher, podcaster, content creator, business owner, and now author. She's got more books in the works, so if you liked this book, get ready for more. If you didn't like the book, understandable and have a nice day. Calypso spends her days doing weird shit with her gaggle of animal children and her wonderful husband. And she likes it that way.

CHAPTER ONE
A nd that is why you should always make sure your butthole is clean before you get to business.
No better advice than to wash your ass, DJ Walk the Line. All right, y’all. Up next, we’ve got ‘Are You Bored Yet?’ by Wallows featuring Clairo. Stay tuned in to The Hearts Room and always remember to clean that booty.
I started playing the next song and had just taken off my headphones when Walker stretched, opening his mouth in a big yawn. Ever get tired of this shit?
I shrugged. Planning the show gets tedious, but I do love talking on the air. Makes me think someone’s listening. That I’m making some difference.
He nodded. You know, we could do a more personal story next week. You’ve always got tales to tell.
DJ Walk the Line, aka Walker Carmichael, was wearing a plain blue T-shirt and some black cargo shorts. He had shoulder-length salt-and-pepper hair and a trimmed beard. Walker was gorgeous, clearly worked out, and even though he dressed simply, he dressed well. He was a little older than me, which I liked. He was my type on paper: funny, smart, interesting, cool. I had always found him attractive, but I didn’t want to spoil our friendship for the sake of our show.
I rolled my eyes. My stories are far too embarrassing to share on the show. You should talk about your girlfriend.
Ah yes, well I would if I had one.
Still single?
Yup. I mean, no, of course not! My girlfriend just goes to a different school . . . in Canada . . .
I laughed loudly at that. Okay, Walker. Let me know if anything changes.
He smiled and said, Think we’ll get any more callers tonight?
I glanced at the phone. Damn, I sure hope so. Could liven up the party.
Walker winced. I see I’m not lively enough for you. That one hurts, Alyse.
I pushed lightly on his wheely chair so he spun a little. You know what I mean, silly goose.
He looked down and shook his head. I gotcha. Well, I gotta pee. I’ve had to go since before that last segment. I’ll be right back.
Sounds good.
I smiled as Walker half-sprinted out of the room. I shook my head as he left.
What a dork.
I went by DJ Lease, but my real name was Alyse Hendrix. I don’t like to dwell on myself, but just so you get the picture: I am twenty-three and a little curvy. I’ve got a brown A-line bob and many tattoos, and I exclusively live in bike shorts and weird T-shirts I find at Goodwill. Today, my shirt says Mom of the Birthday Boy.
I moved here a while back for college and then proceeded to drop out to pursue DJing as a full-time career. I’ve been a radio DJ for a while now, and the studio’s my safe place. The walls are covered in records and posters from the shows on the station. My show with Walker is called The Hearts Room, and it’s my baby. We’ve been doing the show for a year now, so we know each other pretty well.
In fact, I was just going through the next lineup when the phone light started going off. We loved a good late-night caller.
I picked up the phone and said, Hey, thanks for calling into The Hearts Room. DJ Lease here.
‘Are You Bored Yet?’ huh? Don’t have much faith in your show, do you?
The sound of the familiar voice gave me a chill. One of our more frequent callers, known only to us as Shane, was on the line.
I blew a little air out of my nose and said, Yeah, I’m my own worst critic. Are you bored yet?
A deep chuckle came through the phone. Well, I’m definitely not now that you’re on the phone. Not very often I get to talk to a celebrity.
That got a belly laugh out of me. Yup, cause the girl on the radio station that barely gets listeners is a celebrity. Let me call my agent to speak with you instead.
Just nice to get some attention from someone you admire, ’s all,
Shane crooned as I twirled the cord with my fingers.
You know, Shane, you call so often, and you always sound so lonely. Do you need to get out of the house?
Are you asking me on a date, DJ Lease?
My stomach did a baby turn, and I sighed a little. Just for curiosity’s sake, I suppose. You call often enough that I think maybe you could use some company.
He breathed out and was silent before saying, What would a guy like me do on a date with a girl like you?
I noticed the song was about to be over and before I said it, he beat me to it.
Bet you’re about to go back on.
Yup, but I’ll make you a deal. You listen to the rest of the show, and I’ll say where I’m headed afterward. If you’ve got the time, we could always go out for a drink.
I think I’ll be tuned in, DJ Lease.
AND I SAID I WOULD be at the Warehouse tonight. Hopefully I see him there.
Walker, closing his laptop, nodded. Well, still be careful. He might be a regular listener, but he could also be a sixty-year-old creep.
I pushed the door open, Walker following. I’ll be okay. If not, I’ll scream bloody murder and pepper spray the guy,
I half joked, looking for my pepper spray in my bag.
That’s a good plan,
he agreed.
Speaking of plans, what have you got going on tonight?
Oh, me?
Walker looked at me. Just gonna watch some true crime, eat some Skinny Pop, and head to bed. That’s the usual routine after these late-night shows.
I looked back and smiled. Maybe one of these days I’ll convince you to come out with me.
Hey, don’t think I couldn’t drink you under the table if I wanted to!
Walker gave me a little shove, and I laughed, opening my car door.
Okay, DJ Walk the Line. See you tomorrow.
Walker hugged me and tapped my back three times.
See you.
I pulled away, got in my car, and turned on my playlist. Far Too Young to Die
by Panic! at the Disco started playing.
Well, that’s not a very good sign.
THE WAREHOUSE WAS THIS giant building where one half was a club and the other was a bar. The vibes for each section were completely different, and the type of crowds they attracted couldn’t be more opposite. The club had a retro vibe, like something out of the eighties, and
