And all the others who supported us to create this Work of Art.
From the writer's pen...
They say that most dreams are buried even before they are considered. But we ask, are they? It's been a long-formed idea to create an entirely new realistic fantasy while no harm is brought to the existing reality. After many discussions, brain rackings, thousands of texts and conversations, here’s the outcome. Remastering the country and the roads we know with a new visual has not been easy. Introducing new characters, characters who may live among us, but then transform to adapt to the new environment has not been easy as well. Building an unknown story around a known environment was the biggest challenge. But then, here we are.
The ‘Island of Dead’ is our homeland as we know but it’s nothing we’d imagine about. And we should say, nothing can set limits to a little imagination. This is not a derived, remastered, or rebooted version of any other story written before. This was crafted purely out of the twisted and
imaginative minds of the team and presented to you with great care. One of our greatest expectations is to expand the modern literature of Sri Lanka and take it to the hands of the young minds who will grow up to be the future of our home. To do this, it is essential to touch on the latest trends that have topped the charts for a few years. So, here’s the outcome of the recipe.
The Island of Dead will take you to a future with unimaginable but foreseeable technology, the warmth of human relationships, and scales between right and wrong, all topped off with a devastating zombie apocalypse. Although the concept of zombies has been in the talking for the past several years, native zombies are something we tried to create here. With all the hard work, and the tremendous support from the team as well as the external well-wishers, we hope you receive what you sought...

PROLOGUE TERROR
ALL I REMEMBER ABOUT my father was that he was a man of science way before he was a father. While most kids spent their childhoods playing at playgrounds, my playground was my father’s laboratory. I spent most of my childhood there, singing the periodic table instead of the alphabet. While most fathers taught their children to read and write, my pops started by teaching me about the world that we lived in. I knew that one day I wanted to be a scientist just like my father to make him proud, but I would never know under which circumstances that would be.
BOOOM!!!
a loud explosion threw me off my makeshift bed waking me up and throwing me into survival mode. The loud explosions were about 500 meters away from where I was. I peered out of a broken window of the building where I was finding refuge in. The Military was on a bomb run on the infected zones.
Fools!
They have no idea about what they created. They were trying to exterminate the infected by bombing infected zones. But what they didn’t know was that by creating more noise, they were attracting more of the infected into those zones. They were killing hundreds but they were attracting thousands.
The government was responsible for creating the monsters that were roaming our cities, killing our families and taking over the country- possibly the whole world.
Rumor was that before the lockdown started the island was being quarantined by the Indian and Chinese Navy. Last I heard, they had deployed submarines and flight carriers all around the island's oceans to make sure no one was escaping. I also heard that they had blown up a few boats that had tried to escape from the island.
It took only two weeks for the infection to spread through half of the island. Major cities like Colombo were evacuated because of the amount of infected rising. Survivors were reduced to a mere handful. The people who couldn’t make the transport trucks were left for the dead roaming the streets.
It was dangerous to roam the cities, especially at night. I call them the Crawlers
the alphas of the infected, four times faster than the common infected and four times smarter too. While the common infected seemed to roam around purely out of the need to spread the infection, the crawlers were different; reacted differently. They seem to be created from a different strain of the mutation virus. They seem to be created purely for the hunt, for the thrill. The crawlers seem to come out only during the night for reasons unknown.
However, that fact might not exactly be correct, because I myself do not travel in the daytime. Why? You may ask. Because it's easier to get spotted for one, and two I’ve actually not verified that human survivors might not be left in the city.
Just the other day I came upon a trap, too complex and discreetly set to not be a trap.
In times like these, it would probably be better to meet an infected than a normal human being. The trap was specifically set to capture an infected alive.
But why? And why would they do such a thing? Why wouldn’t they want to just get rid of the thing?
I guess that’s an
