I, Lee McGee, from California, wish to inspire all of you, wonderful people aged 60-years-old or beyond to live life king-size. I am a 68-year-old man who believes in staying fit. It is my passion and is something that I learned from my parents. It gives me the power to support my loved ones when they need me. Easy Chair Exercises for Seniors intends to help you live a fuller life by guiding you on how to exercise, despite your knee or back problems or if sitting on the ground or standing for long can be challenging for you. The exercises mentioned in this book are suitable, especially for elderly people with limited movement or flexibility due to various health reasons. So, if you want to regain flexibility and live life independently and optimistically, what are you waiting for? This book is your gateway to a world of fitness, tailored specifically to make exercise effortlessly adaptable, especially while you are comfortably seated in a chair. I myself realized its importance very early in life. I love hiking, walking, working out, music, and live theater. Learning something new daily for self-improvement became my passion. With 2 elderly parents in the 90's requiring daily exercise and living in an assisted living facility, I have put together the exercises in this book, after years working with different Physical and Occupational Therapists, and I see the incredible results. I am by trade a network engineer, which enables me to be detailed creating the step by step exercises. As my parents exercised while they were young and also managed to do it when they crossed their seventies, they did their daily chores independently. With this book, Chair Exercises for Seniors, exercises can be done independently, but now with guidance from this book. With all this thought in mind, I decided to share with you my knowledge about exercising. I have been practicing exercises from various disciplines in my routine and found it beneficial and exciting to mingle them together. After a deep analysis, I have chalked out sample routines for you to help you live a more fulfilling and active life that is free from pains and discomforts.

Easy Chair Exercises for Seniors - Lee McGee
Chapter 1––––––––Sitting Fit—The Fundamentals of Chair-Based Exercises for Seniors
Strength does not come from the body. It comes from an indomitable will. –Mahatma Gandhi
Unfortunately, many older people don’t get the exercise they need nowadays. Research shows that only 15% of the population between 65 and 74 years old engage in regular physical activity (WebMD, 2023). It seems logical if we consider the issue that after 50, we no longer have the same energy and willingness to make any extra effort.
Most people are conscious of the importance of being physically active, but traditional exercise routines can be daunting. Added to this is the fact that when we start losing fitness, it is hard to regain. For example, two weeks of physical inactivity in older persons may have a detrimental influence on muscle health and blood sugar, but these losses cannot be restored with two weeks of exercise. Indeed, inactivity, more than a specific type of physical training, plays a key role in the mechanisms involved in maintaining balance in seniors (Thomas et al., 2019).
That said, I congratulate you for taking the initiative to educate yourself through these pages and start a journey into healthy habits. Whether mobility limitations, balance concerns, or simply a preference for low-impact activities bring you to this journey, you’ll find solace in knowing that enhancing your physical health and overall well-being is both achievable and enjoyable.
The decision to start an exercise program is, in fact, transformative. Exercise encourages you to tap into your own energy reserves and discover a meditative rhythm in movement that salutes your body’s capabilities and ambitions.
Exercise Guidelines for Seniors
First of all, any kind of physical exercise is preferable to none. Of course, the more you exercise, the better your health will be. Experts agree that elderly persons should engage in some form of physical exercise every day (NHS, 2019), even if it’s just light activity, such as making the bed, getting up to cook or make a cup of tea, walking at a slow pace, moving around your home, playing with your grandkids, cleaning, gardening, vacuuming, and so
