Denise J Allwood

Denise J. Allwood is a debut author seeking to bring a new perspective to the devotional space. Although she spent her career as a nurse and healthcare consultant, she often enjoyed literature classes and writing pieces for her studies and work. After a very difficult time in her life which devastated her emotionally, she rekindled her relationship with God. This sparked her journey of reawakening and appreciation for the most important things in her life: God, family, and helping others. Drawing from her deep worship and journey to emotional healing and wholeness, she was inspired by God to write a devotional to help others. Through her creative use of worship songs tied to the theme of each day's devotional topic, she invites readers to embark on a healing journey with God's Word and music that heals the soul.

Have you ever felt stuck? Did you want to draw closer to God but you could not understand how to get there? Zion Is Calling unlocks the process and takes you through the journey of connecting with our Father by revealing the importance of worship, the study of the Word and the posture of our hearts. This devotional brought me to a place of becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable; confronting and addressing the issues of my heart while still experiencing God’s love and grace through the songs and the words written. It truly tugs at your heart to draw closer to God and allow Him to heal the brokenness within.

I really enjoyed reading Zion Is Calling. It inspired me to want to get closer to God and to be led by the Holy Spirit. My niece is surely an inspiration to the family. May God continue to bless and use her at an even greater level to be a blessing to His people. God bless you!

    -Audrey Dotson

    -Hyacinth Bridges

Zion Is Calling is the devotional that I did not know that I needed. When I was contacted by the author to edit and produce the book, I realized how precious this cargo was that I was asked to handle. I am grateful, and I am forever challenged and changed by the pages of this devotional.

    -Michelle G. Cameron

This devotional is like none other. As I read it, I entered into a place of rest and felt all anxiety leave my body. I faced 3 abrupt shifts - personally, financially and mentally. It was so devastating and hard to stay in the faith that I contemplated taking my life.

Zion Is Calling allows you to experience God's manifestation of promises as you rest and lean on the Father. Although I had to start over, I was assured that I would not do it on my own because the Lord loves me and equips me with everything that I need. In this season, this devotional not only was the shield for my mind, but it stopped me from quitting because I remembered what God said. I pray that this blesses you and transforms your way of knowing God like it did for me.

    -Yvette Israel

I would like to thank Jesus Christ for choosing my daughter to write this devotional. This book has been a blessing to me, as it caused me to seek a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. On Day 23 the Holy Spirit spoke through those words. He made me realize that He can use any vessel that is fully yielded to Him. I pray that this devotional will be a tremendous blessing to all who read it. I believe that lives will be transformed.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs after You, O God (Psalm 42:1 BSB). This devotional calls us closer to the living waters as He replenishes our hearts, minds, and souls. As you study the Word, listen to the songs, reflect, and go to the Father in prayer, you will undoubtedly deepen your worship. Zion is Calling is the perfect companion for building your relationship with God.

    -Tara Hayes

This devotional takes you into a deeper relationship with God as you release your anxieties, hurt, pain, and all of life's challenges to Him. I was encouraged to invite God into the hidden parts of my heart and allow Him to do a new work in me. I began repairing what was once lost with this renewed partnership with Him.

    -Damain Allwood

This devotional is a perfect way to start your day with the Word of God. I especially love the use of songs and the reflections to help cement the devotional topic in my mind as I go throughout the day. It has truly been a blessing to me!

    -Natalia Bayton

I like this devotional because of how deeply it allows you to dwell in your relationship with God, but in a different way. Paired with worship songs, this devotional is truly a healing journey through Christ.

    Introduction

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23 NKJV)

There is not a person alive that has not faced adversity, mistreatment, unkindness, or loss in some way, shape, or form. It is a natural part of life. However, when these things seem to happen in greater proportion than good things, or the magnitude of the adversity or mistreatment is great; our emotional capacity to maintain a positive view of ourselves, others, and God, diminishes greatly. Our world can become a dark place very quickly, lacking faith, hope, and love, due to the negative emotions trapped inside our hearts.

Our Father never intended for us to carry these negative thoughts and emotions with us day after day, month after month, and year after year. His intention has always been for us to foster an intimate relationship with Him. This is where we can acknowledge every negative thought or emotion freely and release all of them to Him by working through them with the Holy Spirit to bring us back to the truth that His love covers all.

I, like you, have been tossed to and fro by the storms of life. I have had glimpses of what a good life can be, but I have also lived through extreme lows. I have suffered many setbacks, betrayals, heartbreaks, abuse, and other forms of adversity. Just like many of you, it left me broken, depressed, tormented, alone, and in despair. Bitterness and resentment took root without me even realizing it. At my lowest point, my spirit was broken, all my hopes and dreams were dead, and the pain within my soul was so great that I thought that I would die there.

    I hit rock bottom.

Although, in my mind, I saw no way out, something inside of me would not let go.

I looked up and said, God, I give up. I can’t do this anymore. I’ve done all that I can do to right this ship, change my thoughts, fix my marriage, and nothing has made much of a difference. I’m still at the bottom of this pit.

It was August 2nd, 2023, while I was sitting on my back porch, that I heard God’s voice say, Give it all to Me. I did just that.

Over the course of the next several months, gradually I started seeking God’s presence again (I pretty much grew up in church), listening to sermons online here and there, as well as attending a church on some Sundays. Things around me started to change. The kids started acting right, the relationship between me and my husband started to improve, and my emotional state started to trend upward. There were still many challenges and days when I hit setbacks and things looked how it used to look, but instead of keeping it all trapped inside, I cried out to God about it. Even when I did not have the words to speak, I asked my
