To be understood by someone… To have someone in your life who gets you… To know that there is at least one person who wants to know all about you - about the internal mechanics of your spirit, mind and body - is a powerful and validating experience, and when it happens, you discover that you are not alone. In fact, as the exchange of understanding continues and the relationship evolves, you truly begin to understand that you never were. You were never alone at all.

And so it is with my wife, companion and best friend, Karla. My Karlita. She gets me, and for this I am grateful. Thankful. It is she who continues to profess her belief in me, and I dedicate these pages to her in gratitude for her support, help and faith.

But mostly, I dedicate this small set of musings to Karla for her continued understanding of a flawed man who still has the courage to put one foot in front of the other every day on the path of life… even when the path cannot be seen.
