DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to my little siblings: Khai, Anvyhi, Madi, Nana, Kingston, and TJ. Dedicated to my mom and dad who are my most important role models.
It’s dedicated to all the teachers and people who believed in me, and those who didn’t. Thank you to my aunts, cousins and grandparents for showing me love.
Thank you to Samaya, Zariyah, Daniel, Ahmaya, Itzel, Jahlon and Keria, for making me laugh on the days I didn’t feel I could.
Thank you to Dr. Edwards for helping me achieve this goal. I wouldn’t be here without any of you.
CHAPTER
ONE
☐☐
The day started like any other at my middle school. I walked through the hallways, chatting with friends, thinking about the upcoming weekend plans, and trying to remember if I had finished all my homework. But in less than 30 seconds, everything changed.
Out of nowhere, chaos erupted. Hands were flying, hair was being pulled, and the once calm hallways turned into a battleground. Confrontations that had been brewing for days escalated into a full-blown altercation right before my eyes.
In the blink of an eye, the peace of the day shattered, and the lives of myself and two other students were turned upside down. March 15, 2024, will forever be etched in my memory as the day when tensions reached their boiling point and spilled over, leaving behind a mess that couldn't be cleaned up.
It was a harsh reminder that sometimes, even the most normal days can take unexpected turns, and that the consequences of unresolved conflicts can be swift and unforgiving. That leads me to talk about 5 of the biggest challenges of middle school.
