From Word to eBook Made Easy (Using Word for Mac v2021) - Sabra Hunter

    Introduction

Old habits die hard, so it was a real challenge for me to learn new and different ways of formatting word documents in order to produce an error-free, professional-looking eBook. Get rid of page numbers? Never! Stop using tabs to indent? Why would I do that? One space instead of two after a period? In my mind only teenagers did that. My initial text was written using a modified Normal Paragraph Style, renamed Print,  set to double-spacing, since that’s is easier for me to proofread. Also, because I planned to print this version, I had to add page numbers.

Later, after all the proofreading was done, I applied Normal (single spacing) style to the entire text and deleted page numbers since they’re not needed for eBooks.

**NOTE: You don’t have to do this, but as a precaution when you first begin your proofing/editing process, you might want to save your document as a Title_O.doc (O for Original) and place it safely inside your HD. Then, for editing purposes, make an alias of it and place the alias your desktop.  This will prevent any accidental deletion of the original file.  As you get more adept at proofreading on screen, you’ll eventually be able to skip this step.

I am not a professional editor. I don’t have dozens of eBooks to my credit. But my first upload is testament that if I can do it, anyone
