    Following my older brother to a party? Not my best moment. In my defense, he refused to take me anywhere in our new city. Staying home no longer did it for me.

    And it wasn’t like I’d made any friends at college. Just the idea of starting a conversation with any of my classmates made it hard to breathe.

    Back to the present, I stood before a door that begged me to open it.

    I’d officially lost my mind if I thought a door was talking to me. Shaking my head, I tried the knob. It silently opened. My eyes darted around the hallway. I half expected someone to stop me.

    I took it as a sign to step inside.

    Honestly, I just wanted a place to escape to. Downstairs was too loud and I had a headache.

    I only needed a minute to breathe before leaving. My brother hadn’t seen me, and I planned to keep it that way.
