Dedications
This book is dedicated to America and Freedom and Democracy that are the Eternal Values of the life of all people on Earth.
This book is dedicated to the Lord God, our Heavenly Father, who gave the opportunity to overcome delusions and approach the truth when writing the book. It is well-known that the truth is the source of all light and knowledge in our mortal life.
— Fred Ford:
This book is dedicated to my wise parents, chaste and beloved wife, and my wonderful children.
— Alexey Dmitriev:
This book is dedicated to my father, Benjamin (1947-2021), who taught me all my life to take education and science very seriously. Frankly, I would be doomed to intellectual, social, and spiritual death without following my father’s advice. Also, this book is dedicated to my wife, Anna, and son, Zakhar, who patiently tolerated my constant absence during the long winter evenings when I was writing the book.

A review of the book The Theory of the ‘Common Good’ and Russian Freemasonry in the Second Half of the 18th Century – the First Quarter of the 19th Century
Looking for any magical means to jump into ancient times and escape from day-to-day reality? Plunging deep into the breathtaking pages of books about the glorious past is a wonderful method to go about it. Considering history in all respects from different angles, it could be concluded that it is quite messy and complex, however, a large amount of it is not ugly at all, and skilled specialists can successfully process it. The more the reader knows about it, the more the disorder makes sense, both in an up-to-date and historical setting. In Fred Ford and Alexey Dmitriev’s book The Theory of the ‘Common Good’ and Russian Freemasonry in the Second Half of the 18th Century – the First Quarter of the 19th Century, the authors eloquently cover the best historical themes in detail: Freemasonry as a very Old Secret mystical Organization and everything that has surrounded it (its origin, Freemasons, the emergence of Masonic Lodges, the processes running inside various Masonic Lodges, the participation of Masonic Lodges in the life of the States, etc.). This book about Freemasonry gave me a piece of extensive knowledge of history and historical events cloaked in mystery. Of course, they say that tastes differ, and that is true. For example, some people consider it advantageous to be born and raised in New York. Others probably have a very different opinion about being born and raised in Paris. Nevertheless, nearly everyone in the world has heard of Freemasonry and Freemasons, so this was a very interesting historical topic to extensively read about.
The authors of the book carefully and systematically described many events regarding Freemasonry in Russia in this historical book using research from the second half of the 18th century and the very beginning of the 19th century. In addition, this historical research embraced and acknowledged the common good
that profoundly influenced many people in the past and in current times continues to influence many people, Also, many photos throughout the book depicted famous Masonic Signs and Relics.
Many aspects were thoroughly researched in the book: the national history, the history of philosophy, the state and law, and the Russian political and legal doctrines of that time. Many issues were revealed from a legal science point of
view, including the state and legal ideas of Russian Freemasons. After reading the book, it is clear that the research used was gained from many genuine Russian and foreign archives, including secret documents.
An enormous scientific work was comprehensively fulfilled when creating this historical book, disclosing many unknown facts and events connected with Freemasonry in Russia and Russian Freemasons. It was demonstrated throughout the book that European Freemasonry (German, French, and British) came to Russia and was firmly rooted there, deeply influencing Russian high society, comprising Russian Sovereigns, and the state as a whole. The research showed the socio-political and philosophical views Of Russian Freemasons and gave a historical analysis of the normative documents of Freemasons. The book demonstrated the process of reforming Russian Freemasonry at the very beginning of the 19th century. The problem of the legalization of Freemasonry and the theme of enlightened absolutism in Russia was mentioned as well. Many biographical sources and collections of various historical materials were used in the book. The authors identified and analyzed the basic state and legal ideas of Russian Freemasons in correlation with the theory of the common good.
