Would you change for me? - Mauricio Aban

    Chapter 1

    Aylen:

Despite having everything, I am unhappy, I need help with my depression, which started when I was seven years old.

Dad was a great businessman, mom a great lawyer, I was his only daughter, but we knew that someone was coming at that time, yes, mom was two months pregnant, I wanted to have someone to accompany me, I didn't want to be alone.

But my parents, because of their jobs, I only saw them at night when they came home tired from work, then in the mornings when they had to go to work.

I had a babysitter, Cindy was a university student and she took care of me to cover her expenses at university, she was like my best friend but I knew she wouldn't be with me all my life.

In the afternoons for two hours Cindy asked me not to make noise because she had a class online, I remember seeing her nervous because she had an exam, I was in my room drawing a sign that said Congratulations on passing the exam.

But I didn't hear anything, when I left I walked slowly, she was lying in her class notes, she was crying and when she saw me, she wiped the tears from her face.

    -I didn't pass, little caterpillar.

Caterpillar was my nickname, he told me that he called me that because he said when I grew up I would become a big butterfly, I would know when I felt free. She also told me that she was a caterpillar about to become a butterfly, she said that she would be a butterfly on her graduation day and become a lawyer like my mother.

    I hugged her and said:

    -I'm sorry.

    -Why do you say that?

-If you didn't have to take care of me, you would have more time to study.

-The truth is that you and your parents help me pay for my studies and my reward is taking care of you, plus life gives many opportunities.

-But I want you to approve.

-And I will do it, I was just crying because I thought it would happen but I know it will be next time.

    -Are you sure?

    -You will see.

    -I love you Cindy.

    -I love you little caterpillar.

    <—♡—>

    ––––––––

    -You are my perfect daughter.

That was his phrase that Uncle Chock told me all the time, on the weekends we went to visit him, he was dad's assistant, but he always called me that when he saw me, but then that phrase became the beginning of everything. disgusting that I felt in my soul.

He didn't have grandparents, dad said they died and he had to pursue his dreams and he achieved it.

I had my dad's green eyes, my mom's hair, dark brown, my parents gave me everything, we lived in the private neighborhoods of the city.

My favorite things were reading classic books, like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy was my favorite character, because she is very brave when facing the evil witch and doing everything she can to return to her home.

I loved Alicia what she could create in her dreams, it was as if she could escape from the real world, it was what made me imagine an entire wonderland but only for me.

I remember that I wanted to be Dorothy, I took some of my mom's red shoes and started walking around the house, imagining that one of the doors of the house would take me to Oz.

In the distance Cindy saw and took a broom and began to imitate the voice of the evil witch, she chased me and tried to escape from her, she hid in the closets, under the beds, she always let me escape, until she told me:

-I'll do the tickling spell on you.

He started tickling me, I asked him to stop, but he continued until mom arrived, saw us and smiled.

    -What are they doing?

    -Maaaamaaa.

I said and ran to hug her.

-Cindy and I were playing Dorothy. Do you want to play with us? You will be the good witch.

-Honey, I'm very tired, but why are you wearing my shoes?

I stayed silent, because mom didn't like her things being touched.

-Sorry mom, your things are better than mine.

-That's not an excuse miss, take them off.

    -Yes mom.

I said sadly, I gave them to her, I was waiting for Cindy to say goodbye to her and wait for her tomorrow, but mom said she should stay, because she wanted to talk to her.

Oh no! My mind said, I was afraid that I would scold her because maybe Cindy didn't see that she was bringing mom's shoes, so before going to sleep, dad was already home, I remember seeing them from the stairs sitting on the couches.

I couldn't hear what they were saying, but if I saw them show her something on a laptop, Cindy started crying and hugging my parents.

Then she saw me and said:

-Caterpillar, if you don't sleep you won't be a butterfly.

-What's going on? If it's because of the shoes, it's my fault.

    -Aylen.

Dad said, but I said nervously:

-If they are going to fire her, I'll go with her, she's my friend.

-Aylen, no one will be fired.

    -That?

Mom got up and took me to sit with them, saying:

-We saw that Cindy does an excellent job with you, she also studies, so we invited her to come to Aspen with us, also a great raise for her family and to cover her university expenses.

-Is she really coming to Aspen with us?

    -Yessss.

Cindy answered with joy, I went to Cindy and started talking to her about that place full of snow, I told her what it would be like to be with her.

But let's say that trip was where it all began.

    Episode 2

    Aylen:

When I was a little girl we went to Aspen, I was happy because Cindy would go with us, Uncle Chock didn't want to go with us, so it was mom, dad, Cindy and me, also the brother or sister who was on the way.

We were at the hotel, Cindy couldn't believe how luxurious the place was.

-Come little caterpillar, I'll help you with your luggage.

    Mom came in and said:

-Cindy, don't do that, you're not working for us, relax.

He took her hand and took her to have a hot chocolate, before leaving I frowned, because it was customary for someone to help me with the luggage.

As we began to arrange everything, Dad approached.

-Do you want me to help you, caterpillar?

-Only Cindy calls me a caterpillar.

-Why are you in a bad mood?

-Mom and Cindy went to get some chocolate and I stayed here to unpack things.

    -Aylen, you love Cindy.

-Dad, what are you saying, of course I love her, even though I know she's of age, she's like my best friend.

-Then why do you see her as an employee?

    -That? -I said surprised.

-Daughter, if you saw Cindy as a friend you wouldn't throw these tantrums.

    -Dad...

He didn't let me continue with my conversation, he just interrupted me saying:

-Aylen Wright Walker you have to understand that sometimes you will be alone and that nothing revolves around you.

I didn't say anything, because I always had everything, that's why it was difficult for me to understand what dad wanted to tell me.

    <—♡—>

One day on February 18, after skiing, Mom and Dad went for a ride in the car. Cindy and I wanted to go see the city. Before going to the city, Cindy called Mom to let her know. Mom just told her. He warned them to be careful.

So she was driving, on the way she could see how the snowflakes fell and fell, also how the flakes increased more and more.

-It seems to be a snow storm.

-I think so, Cindy, I have my seat belt fastened, don't worry.

    -It's okay little caterpillar.

I noticed that she was worried, so I tried to be silent, but I saw in the rearview mirror that the snow was beginning to cover our view of the road.

Cindy was going at a moderate speed, she didn't want to have an accident so she was very focused.

But I saw two fights that were in front of us, Cindy screamed, I just remember feeling a big impact, our car fell down a not so deep ravine, the car that crossed us lost control and ended up hitting a tree .

I remember seeing Cindy with her eyes closed and blood coming out of her head. I felt excruciating pain in my leg and arm, but I was stunned by the accident.

I couldn't stand my weakness when I heard a couple of footsteps in the distance, then an explosion, that was because the car that crossed us exploded.

When I woke up I was with bandages on my head and a cast on my arm and leg, I woke up and saw that a nurse was injecting medication.

When she saw me, she left without telling me anything, I was still stunned, what I didn't know was that I was completely alone in this world.

    Chapter 3

    Aylen:

When I leave the house Uncle Chock gives me a big hug, I can only say in a low voice:

    -I'll be late.

And he lets me go without saying Goodbye he just hugs me, even so I wait for the bus at the stop, there was Emily, my best friend.

-Friend, I still can't believe that someone like you would rather take the bus than be given a ride or better have your own car.

She is my happy one, compared to me, since the accident I can't smile, for all my parents are traveling that's why Uncle Chock takes care of me, believe me he now has the power to do whatever he wants with me, he is in charge of the dad's company

It should be mine but I am a minor and even more so, I don't know anything about economics or rights as a mother.

-Emily, you know that even though I don't need it, I like to be normal, I mean I don't like to show off what I have.

-You are the only one of the popular ones who thinks like that.

-Why do you think most people like me?

-You're right, everyone loves you and almost no one hates you but you're not perfect either.

-I know, but that nonsense of being popular for being a cheerleader or being a millionaire is already out of fashion.

-Tell it to the Las plasticas of our school.

-There is a reason I am the way I am.

We were laughing until the bus arrived, as I took my seat, I told Emily not to bother me, I always sleep on the way to school, so I took my small headphones and put on the best song by my favorite group.

But when she was getting to the chorus, Emily picked up an earphone and listened to the song.

-Seriously, do you like that group?

    -Problem with that?

-Don't you like songs by Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo or Billie Eilish?

-Yes, I love their songs, Don't Blame Me, Drivers License and Ocean Eyes.

    -So?

-My taste is varied, I have a playlist with very varied songs.

    -I don't like Korean girls.

-Then let me listen to the songs alone or give it a chance.

I played the same song again.

    We are the lovesick girls

    네 멋대로 내 사랑을 끝낼 순 없어

    We are the lovesick girls

이 아픔 없인 난 아무 의미가 없어

    -Aylen I don't understand anything.

-Just listen to the rhythm and voices of Blackpink.

But we were born to be alone

Yeah, we were born to be alone

Yeah, we were born to be alone

But why are we still looking for love?

Emily just looked at me with a strange expression, I didn't pay attention to her, I was just concentrating on getting some sleep, but I couldn't, so to cheer Emily up because she was getting bored with the song, I finished the song with But why we still looking for love?

I did the choreography step, she just laughed and I laughed with her.

-Aylen didn't know that side of you.

    -Do you like the song?

She gave me a thumbs up, although knowing her I know she'll be listening to Kpop later.

Music is what saves me so far, but sometimes when I get tired of music, I read books, they are things that take me to another world, art too but I am not good at drawing or painting.

    <—♡—>

At the end of classes, Emily invited me to eat at a restaurant near where I work, while we were eating she told me about the party that was at her house, obviously she invited me but Uncle Chock didn't want to let me go.

I wanted to change the subject because I didn't like talking about what happened at night, so I had to say that I had to go, it was true but I used it to avoid that conversation.

We go out together and we separate, when I open the store, I greet the owner, Mr. Wilson, although I call him He eats books because he always has one in his hand.

    -Hello Aylen.

    -Good morning Mr. Wilson.

He gets up and tells me what I have to do, then he leaves because it is my turn to tend the store, before leaving he tells me: -You can take a copy if you want.

I was talking about the new book that arrived.

-It is not necessary, I already read it on Wattpad.

-But it is not the same as paper, in short the store is all yours.

    -Goodbye and take care.

    -Likewise Aylen.

He is good to me and sometimes he lets me take some books. I got a job because I love books. Although it was difficult to get hired, Mr. Wilson didn't trust anyone until I showed him how to make his store more up-to-date. The time.

There were 30 minutes left until the afternoon shift opened, Mr. Wilson always attends in the morning and I always attend in the afternoon.

The new book that arrived was very well known on Wattpad, so I began to place a shelf with the re Wattpad logo, and the copies of the book, also dividers with fakes of the book or with animated photos of its characters, then with decoration paper I made two days before violet flowers and tree leaves, placing a table with Pink Floyd t-shirts (the triangle symbol and the rainbow) in front of the book shelf.

So when I put the last copy, I took some that were left over and I like the white background cover and details of the story, so I started reading to see if it was true that it was different from the Wattpad version.

When I see the time to open, I play on the speakers three songs that are mentioned in the story: Wonderwall, You Found Me and my favorite Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.

I have a client who comes to me every month to ask if we order the new books that come out every month, then he comes back and buys them.

The place began to take off, the music gave a touch to the fans of the book, they all wanted to have Boulevard by Flor M. Salvador flormsalvador.

Until I saw that my best client arrived, Fernando, he came with his friend who sometimes comes, Anne, I received two copies and dividers for the two of them.

-Tell me you have the books.

    -You got lucky.

    -Is it a yes?

I am them and I see their eyes light up.

-You are the best, that's why it is the best store.

His friend Anne takes him to see more books, while he was selling to people, Fernando came with two more books, Anne with only one.

-Do you really like to read? How are you doing with your book?

-Not very good, it is already published on Wattpad but still no one reads it.

-Don't worry, the impact will come.

I read his story, it has potential but you have to be lucky to grow as a writer.

    -And you Anne?

    -I just like to read.

Then they leave with their books, while I saw that the Boulevard fans didn't stop singing the songs, I even saw one cry when she saw the cover, she said: -Luke.

It makes me tender to see that because I felt that way before, until I knew that I will never have a Jack Ross in my life.

    Chapter 4

    Dylan:

I'm not one to read books, I only read manga, but my best friend Sandy insists that I read Boulevard.

While we were going to school, she told me:

-Dylan, please, today is the day when the book that will make you cry will arrive.

    -Oh really?

-Well there are better books but with this one you can start your life as a reader.

    -I'm already a reader.

-Read mangas yes, but you don't want to go to another level.

    -Nope.

When I get to school, she keeps begging me to buy the damn book.

But I don't pay attention to it, I once installed Wattpad but let's say it didn't work for me, Webtoon is the best.

I explained that to Sandy but she always wants to achieve her goal, believe me, Oliver her boyfriend had to read the entire Hunger Games saga for her.

That's love, she's my only friend, I don't have too many friends, only Sandy and Oliver, but I don't go out with them much, I don't want to be the bad guy.

In the cafeteria Sandy tells me:

-Dylan, when are you bringing someone?

    -Love, please.

Oliver tells him because he knows that comment bothers me, it's not that I don't want to fall in love but it's that I think it will come in its time.

Sandy looks at him with a cold expression, causing Oliver to soon hug her and kiss her on her cheeks.

From there I know I have to go, I don't want to interrupt anything, so I gave the excuse of going to the bathroom, in the bathroom I just looked in the mirror and I never tell myself that I'm beautiful, my self-esteem is on the floor.

They always bothered me for being a loner, but I didn't care anyway we will all end up alone but there is one person who makes the exception.

    <

    ——♡——>

After school, I go home and Sandy tells me:

    ––––––––

-Dylan picked you up at five in the afternoon.

    -That?

    -To go buy the book.

    -I said no.

    -Because?

-Because I don't want to use my imagination to understand the story.

-That's why you're bad in class.

She left angry, I didn't want to say sorry or go buy the damn book but I wanted to go home.

I live in the remote areas of the city, let's say we don't have enough money, nor do we need it in my life.

It was after 9:00 pm, it was already late and mom had not yet come home, perhaps she would stay on the night shift because she was a nurse.

My head was spinning because Sandy left upset with me, I know it would go away instantly but before I got home, while I was in a taxi, Oliver called me, telling me that Sandy only wanted to spend time with me because of what happened with my parents, Yes, dad decided to abandon mom for someone else and ceased to exist for me, that's why I prefer mom because she would never abandon me.

Getting back to the topic, Oliver told me that Sandy always thinks about me, because he knows I'm not the same, since the news about dad's mistress, so he wanted to go out with me.

That call made me feel worse, because I have known her since we were children and she is the best person who could have given me life, then her boyfriend became, let's say, my friend.

When dad abandoned mom for another woman, she was there for me for days, comforting me. I also remember hearing ridicule for that at school and Sandy didn't hesitate to threaten everyone.

So I changed into more presentable clothes and left the house, I left a note for mom, when the taxi dropped me off near the Books Libros bookstore, I ran because I knew they were about to close, when I entered I saw a tall girl, with a beautiful pale face, green eyes and short black hair.

He looked at me with a surprised face, so I told him:

-They have a copy of a book called Boulevard.

-I think so, wait a second.

As he left I could see the decoration with the theme of the book, it is popular.

Then listen to a melody of the song:

    I walk this empty street

On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams

    Where the city sleeps

And I'm the only one, and I walk alone

It was rock with a male voice that was perfect.

The girl brings me a copy of the famous book, I pay with the card (goodbye savings), before leaving I watch the Attack on Titan mangas.

    She sees and tells me:

-You can observe if you want.

I approach the mangas, I begin to see that they are original, but very expensive, but I had already bought the book so I had no other option.

She comes closer and tells me:

-Take one, I'll pay for it.

That's what he told me, surprised and scared. Who says that to a stranger?

    -That? Sorry?.

-I know you didn't want the book, I saw it from your expression.

-You shouldn't do it, I'm a stranger and it's not right for me to accept.

-Mmmmm but I can do it, come on, take one.

I didn't want to, so before leaving she told me:

    -You seriously won't take one?

-I think I will do it with my own money, also, why are you doing it?

-I don't know, it's just that I felt sorry for you.

-That doesn't help me say yes.

-Just take it and these things only happen once in a lifetime.

    Is right.

-What do you want in exchange?

    -Nothing, I'm just kind.

I made a strange gesture at what was happening, she just smiled and while carrying a box, she took a bad step that ended up falling to the ground.

I go to help her and I see that a very old book came out of her bag, I noticed it because of its yellow pages and its worn cover, its title is Alice in Wonderland.

She takes it carefully and hides it, it must be important to her.

    —Thank you. Your name is...?

    —Dylan, are you...?

    —I'm Aylen.

    —Two names with Y.

    -I noticed.

There was an awkward silence, but she went to put things away, while I was looking at the mangas, she comes and tells me:

—Dylan, you're not going to choose one yet.

    -Better not.

She looks at me with a slight smile, although she is beautiful, she is very serious and calm. As she leaves she tells me:

—Dylan, I'm offended that you didn't accept my proposal.

—I'm not that kind of guy, I'm more of a gentleman.

    -I understand.

He turned around, before I lost sight of her I told him:

—Hey Aylen, I liked your attitude and I wanted to know if you want to give me your number.

    -Of course...

She just saw a black car go by and stayed silent, she just left even though I called her so we could continue talking, she just walked without looking back, a beautiful girl treats me well and ends up being a failure.

    Chapter 5

    Aylen:

    Just walk and walk!

My head said, my face wanted to scream with fear, Uncle Chock saw me with a boy, a boy and if he found out that he worked there, I would be lost.

Luckily I have a copy of the book to use as an excuse, I'm afraid, what if it happens again tomorrow? There is no.

I heard Dylan calling me but I kept going and begging him not to follow me, he didn't thank heavens.

When Uncle Chock got home, he was waiting for me in a robe, he had come out of the shower, he knew what he wanted, but it would only happen if I answered something that he believed was a lie.

    -I saw you.

    -I know.

    -Who was he?

—I don't know, just someone who wanted to ask me for the book.

    -What book?.

I take the book out of my bag,
