Magic words that everyone knows
STORY 1
I once knew a girl named Magda. She was a strong character who loved to do what she wanted and did not care how others felt about it. She could get angry in one moment or burst out laughing when nobody else was in another.
Magda's family lived in a house by a river in the suburbs of a large city, in an area where everyone knew each other. Locals thought it was great to live in such a wonderful place within a historical city, with its interesting mix of architecture, parks and various interesting museums to visit.
We live in a fairy tale,
her parents told the girl.
Almost everyone around me thought so too, but not Magda. This girl was always dissatisfied with something.
Magda had a younger brother, mother, and father who loved her very much. But it always seemed to her that she was not welcome, even by her friends. The girl tried to understand why this was happening. Often, she would go to the park and sit there by a large boulder, thinking about everything that was bothering her.
For example, one day, her mother sent her to buy croissants and bread at the nearby bakery. The saleswoman, Mary, listened carefully to her order, packed everything beautifully and handed the package with a smile. Magda paid, grabbed the bag and ran away without saying a word.

One day, her mother baked delicious pancakes for breakfast; the girl happily ate five of them and then went out for a walk. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that Mother was frowning a little, and Dad didn’t want to take her when he went to walk the dog to the park. The neighbour also treated her brother to some juicy yellow plums, but not Magda. Even their dog Ruthie did not come to her when Magda called her name. It was such a shame!
So, the girl sat alone and thought that it was somehow unfair to be treated like this; she even wanted to cry a little. Magda looked at the blue sky, at the clouds floating across it. She did not notice an old woman who sat down on the grass next to her. The old woman was short, a little larger than Magda, wearing old, worn, pointed shoes and a dark dress with a white collar and cuffs. In her hand, she had a green umbrella with a beautiful carved handle. She repeatedly opened and closed it, trying to understand why it didn’t open properly. At the same time, she chuckled or giggled and muttered something quietly to herself.
Magda was not in the mood. She wanted to be alone, and the old woman with
