About this ebook

This small book of poems is the consolidation of the experiences life has chosen to place in front of me for the last two decades.
I have split this into various sections with similar themes about life, love, discovering who one is and finding strength to move forward.
Some of these are fictional works written based on inspiration acquired from external sources and some are personal in nature.
I hope you enjoy reading them and I hope these stories will leave a lasting mark in your heart.

Poetry and writing has been a source of comfort from a very young age, having written my very first poem at the age of 12. Since then I used various metaphors to describe life experiences and various emotional journeys I encountered. When I don't work in my day job where I am apparently a knight in shining armor, I dedicate some of my time to writing. Having compiled poetry for almost 20 years I thought it was about time to select some and publish them in "Memories of Self". That was the easiest book to put together as I already had most of the material. My very first book, "Shards of Self", is a very personal project representing the beginning stages of a long overdue healing process that culminated during the pandemic and its respective circumstances. I am very proud of what the book represents, what it evokes and how it came to be. The journey was not easy but it was cathartic. I am also so grateful to those who took the time to pre-read it and to provide some much-needed feedback. When I don't write, I enjoy painting, dancing, traveling, and experiencing life's journey in its entirety. I have also held a deep love of Asian culture from a very young age and, to that end, I look forward to my travels to Asia in the future. https://coryane.com - the site URL might change in the near future. Mirrors of Self - Corina Sferdenschi

    Acknowledgments

Iwould like to thank my mom for always pushing me to follow my dreams no matter what and for being patient to put up with my complex self. So far, I have not met anyone in life who loves me more than her, so I dedicate this book to her.

There lies a butterfly trapped inside a glass globe. In the middle of the glass globe there is a centerpiece meant for the butterfly to rest. The butterfly, instead, flies haphazardly inside the glass bumping against each wall as it tries to find an exit or a meaning to its existence.

So begins the journey of two decades of experiences, either lived by me or lived by others and told by me in a way that, hopefully, provides an escape from your daily reality. Each section of this book is divided into parts that reflect on specific aspects of life and categories of experiences. These categories can be used as a way to reflect back on how those moments shaped who one becomes as time goes on. The present state, however, is still unsettled but at least it understands each snippet of itself enough to not disintegrate along the way.

    Memories series

What purpose do memories serve? Memories provide a gateway to a past that impacts our present, which will affect our future...

    I.

    Memories

The memories I’ve gathered and neatly arranged in the back corners of my mind

Will always be the nourishment of my lonely heart.

They will sparkle, tease, laugh and cry.

But beyond the barriers of time and past
