INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS TRACING?
Tracing is basically drawing over a light, pre-drawn image in order to enjoy the movement of your hands while creating something visually satisfying. I could compare tracing to dancing. The only difference is the end result. While you feel joy from controlling your whole body while dancing, you will feel joy from controlling the motion of your hand while tracing.
Tracing can help put you in a relaxed mental state while teaching you how to draw these beautiful flowers. Tracing is also a method of storing new shapes in your muscle memory. Remember when you learned to write? There were exercises where you had to draw over the pre-drawn letters. This book uses that same teaching method with modern botanical illustrations. As you draw these flowers following my guidelines, you will be able to recall the shapes in a future drawing session and add that special wow factor to your own sketches.
WHAT IS INSIDE?
There are 40 projects in the book, starting with flowers, then going through some leaves and berries and finally ending with gorgeous floral arrangements. All of the chapters start with easy illustrations. As you go, they become more challenging to trace as shading comes into play, adding an extra layer of detail. Shading allows us to capture the depth and vast variety of three-dimensional shapes within the flowers.
I love details. I believe that the simplest drawing can turn into a professional illustration by adding one perfectly caught detail. This is what I would love to show you in this book. Come on, let’s go through some basics!
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
There are 40 individual tracing projects in this book, printed in light gray—similar to a pencil sketch—waiting for you to bring them to life. Aren’t you excited to see these illustrations in their full glory? Each project comes with a tutorial page, where you can read my tips on how to draw the elements of each illustration and where you can see a hint of the beauty of the finished flowers. The tutorial page leads you through the steps of drawing the flowers with process
