A Note on Gut Health
Gut health concerns your immune system and its ability to fight diseases, bacteria, viruses and fungi that may be present in the stomach. It also involves the bacteria in your digestive tract and ensuring they are in a healthy, well-balanced ratio. These bacteria are key to your well-being and preventing the onset of many diseases. A healthy gut biome mix impacts everything from digestion to mood to energy levels. Nurturing your gut bacteria is one of the most important choices you can make for your overall health. We can’t stress enough how important the old saying is to listen to your gut.
If your gut is healthy, your digestive system will have an easier time converting the nutrients in food into usable energy and getting rid of any waste in your system. The good news is that your gut will tell you when anything is out of balance. Pain and bloating are visible symptoms of poor gut health, followed by irregular bowel habits and consistency changes. Bowel movements that are regular, painless and accompanied by a decrease in gas, bloating and digestive discomfort indicate that your gut is operating correctly. How often you use the restroom is another easy way to determine whether your gut is healthy. There is no set amount of time you should go each day; instead, three bowel movements per day, occurring at least three times each week, is considered healthy.
Juicing is one of the best ways to support your digestive tract, but it isn’t the only piece of the puzzle. To keep your digestive system running efficiently, you also need to eat a balanced diet, engage in regular physical activity and abstain from such behaviors as smoking and drinking alcohol. Also, avoid carbonated sodas, too much coffee, spicy and fatty meals and foods more prone to causing gas and bloating, such as legumes.
