INTRODUCTION

Chapter One: Birth & Early Childhood

Disney: Young and Hard at Work
Walter Elias Disney was born in Chicago’s Hermosa
neighborhood on December 5, 1901, to American parents Elias Disney and Flora Call. Elias Disney was a carpenter who moved around a lot for his work. He was also never really in one place for too long. Flora Call had a bit more stability in her career by working as a public school teacher. Elias Disney was of Irish descent but was born in Canada to immigrant parents. Flora Call was an American of German and English descent. Elias and Flora later met and married each other on January 1, 1888, in Lake County, Florida. Together, Elias and Flora had five children together: Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney, Walter Elias Disney, and lastly, Ruth Flora Disney, the only girl of the Disney
