    NOTE

This book explores the stories of women whose lives were impacted by Kennedy men, a collective history that has never been fully captured. The author uses archival research, interviews, biographies, and news reports to provide accurate approximations of their thoughts and feelings. The author believes that the experiences of these women are accessible and can be studied by anyone.

    PROLOGUE

This book explores the legacy of the Kennedy family, highlighting the crimes committed against women and young girls. The book highlights the double standard that has been placed on the Kennedys, including their role in the death of their second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, and their false accusations of the 1975 sexual assault and murder of Martha Moxley. The book argues that the Kennedys' legacy is not just about their crimes, but also about the women they have broken, tormented, raped, murdered, or left for dead.

The book also discusses the tragic story of Ted Kennedy, who drove off a bridge and left a woman, Mary Jo Kopechne, to die in three feet of water. Despite his tragic death, the Kennedys have been portrayed as a powerful and destructive force in American politics and culture. The book argues that the Kennedys' legacy is not just about their crimes, but also about the power of the Kennedy machine, which recasts women as crazy, spiteful, vengeful, drug addicts, vipers, and seductresses.

The book highlights the importance of acknowledging the history of the Kennedy family and the power of their legacy to perpetuate harmful stereotypes and perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

The Kennedys have a history of quashing anything that contradicts their golden image through power or payoffs. This has allowed this lie to further metastasize, and it is time to do right by the women and girls by excising it. This book seeks to understand what being a woman among Kennedy men felt like over the years through deep reporting and interviews with many who have never spoken before. Many of these women are complicated and were attracted to money, fame, and power. No one in these pages, despite what the Kennedys might have you think, deserved what happened to them. This book is intended as a corrective, a new take on some women we think we know and some we've never really met, neither in full nor in fact. The pattern originates with the ruthless patriarch, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., who committed two original sins: political admiration of Adolf Hitler and his bloodless acceptance of the looming death of Western democracy. The title comes from the most famous line of John F. Kennedy's 1961 inaugural address: Ask not what your country can do for you...

    PART ONE

    ICONS

    CAROLYN BESSETTE

Carolyn, a woman who had been trying to keep her husband happy by flying with him to a Kennedy wedding, was surprised by John's overconfidence and hubris. She believed that John was a Kennedy, a rogue and rebel like his father, and that no one would ever say no to him. However, John was confident and did not take his training seriously, even though he had a cast on his ankle and needed surgery.

Carolyn couldn't fully blame him for his lack of patience and diligence. When they started dating, Carolyn became the only woman in the world to tell John not to take him for granted. This dynamic led to a picture where Carolyn was the dominant figure, and John was the submissive one.

In 1997, John's magazine, George, went from being one of the most successful launches in industry history to a spectacular failure, teetering on the brink of insolvency. He was a laughingstock and called the worst thing anyone could call him: Dumb. His reputation had been plagued since he failed the bar exam twice in his twenties, forcing him to pursue a respectable career in law. When he finally passed, his new colleagues were unimpressed.

John's magazine, George, was meant to upend his reputation but was a failure on three fronts: commercially, critically, and as an intended triumph of public relations. The most respected satirical publication of the age put John on their cover, mocking his professional failures. The piece in Spy magazine mocked his first business idea, a quixotic attempt to sell handmade kayaks and an ill-thought-out rent-a-dog scheme.

John had to concede that Matt Berman had a point. It was time for John to think of a more glamorous, high-profile, and unexpected idea: a magazine.

John Kennedy, a former president and editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone, decided to become the founder and editor-in-chief of a magazine that would mix politics and pop culture. Despite his teacher's warnings, John enrolled in a two-day course called How to Start Your Own Magazine, and despite his mother's advice, he decided to start the magazine. His mother, Carolyn, was skeptical, as she believed that John's down-to-earth nature and lack of experience in journalism would make him a strong candidate for the magazine.

John's mother, now a book editor, doubted John's interest in the magazine business and his lack of experience in journalism. However, John's carelessness with his own things and those of others was his defining character trait. He rode around the city on his bicycle and spent thousands of dollars replacing it. John's public image was not as thoughtless, as he was always in the tabloids with his shirt off, running out of the surf, or playing touch football in Central Park.

John's risk-taking, near-death experiences, and emotional instability added tension to their romance. His moods could darken instantaneously, and he wanted his death to be sudden and fast. His mother, Jackie, and his sister Caroline were doubtful about John's interest in the magazine business and his father's involvement in the Vietnam War.

In conclusion, John's decision to start a political magazine despite his lack of experience and skepticism from his family and friends led to his eventual success.

In Easter 1986, John Kennedy and Christina were invited to
