This is the Marketplace Minute. I’m Meghan McCarty Carino.
STORY 1
Stocks were down Friday, finishing the week with losses.
The Dow and S&P dropped almost eight tenths percent.
And the NASDAQ fell about nine tenths percent.
STORY 2
Apple stock took a hit after a federal judge ruled the company can no longer retain its grip over in-app payments. The decision in the case brought by Epic Games means developers can link consumers AWAY from the Apple’s App Store, which takes up to a 30 percent cut of all payments. The judge rejected a charge that Apple is a monopoly.
STORY 3
President Biden defended his new plan for vaccine mandates for many American workers … telling Republicans who vowed to challenge the policies to -quote- “have at it.” The administration’s plan could require 100 million workers to be vaccinated or tested weekly.
STORY 4 *** CUT THIS FOR PUBRADIO VERSION ***
And shares in Kroger slipped after the grocery chain reported shrinking margins last quarter. While sales remain strong, inflation, theft and changing consumer habits could continue to slow growth.
