Description

On April 15, 2013, Heather Abbott’s life changed forever while spectating the Boston Marathon. After three surgeries in four days, Heather made the decision to allow doctors to amputate her left leg below the knee. With the support of her family, friends, medical professionals, and fellow amputees, Heather now lives a full and active life. While getting fitted for multiple prostheses, she quickly realized that many amputees lack the means to have proper prostheses. This prompted Heather to start the Heather Abbott Foundation (www.heatherabbottfoundation.com) to make prostheses accessible to all amputees.  CNN recognized Heather as a CNN Hero for her work.  For Heather, The Heather Abbott Foundation is both an obligation and an opportunity to “pay it forward” – to give other amputees who have suffered limb loss through traumatic circumstances the chance to live their life – again.  Every year, the Heather Abbott Foundation provides Boston Marathon bibs to runners, including our very own runner, Laurie Rice.  To donate to Laurie's fundraising page to support amputees, check out this link:
