During the 2020 elections, then President Donald J. Trump spread #TheGreatLie that the election would be fraudulent if he didn't win. Trump targeted mail-in ballots as his primary source of election fraud. As a result of these fears, a conservative organization in Texas hired ex-Houston Police Captain Mark Aguirre as a private investigator to look into cases of potential election fraud. Aguirre identified repairman David Lopez as a target, and believed he had stolen mail-in ballots. Aguirre began following Lopez in his work truck, and had been tracking him for days. In early October, Aguirre eventually ran Lopez off the road and held him at gunpoint to search his truck. Aguirre found no ballots. Police in Houston searched David's truck and house and also found no sign of mail-in ballots. Mark Aguirre was arrested and now faces 20 years in prison.
