Description

McCoy to Shipley was a common phrase Texas fans heard nearly every Saturday in the fall between 2006 and 2009. But what type of relationship did the legendary Longhorns hold off the football field?
On Monday's interview episode of The Flagship Podcast, one of the greatest wide receivers to ever suit up in burnt orange, Jordan Shipley joins the show for an exclusive interview that touches on pretty much every topic imaginable. From Shipley's run during his time at Texas to the relationship he held and continues to hold with one of the greatest college football quarterbacks of all time, Colt McCoy, nothing is off limits in this week's interview on The Flagship Podcast.
Shipley discusses what his life has been like away from football after he retired following a legendary career at Texas that ended with him as the program's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and single-season touchdowns — records he currently holds today. The standout wide receiver opens up about his six years spent with the Longhorns as part of one of Texas football's most memorable decades in program history, which has led to him being inducted into the University of Texas Hall of Honor as part of the 2020 class.
From an on the field standpoint, Shipley weighs in on some of the most memorable games during his career in Austin, what was going through his head while holding the snap for Hunter Lawrence's last second field goal in the 2009 Big 12 title game against Nebraska that ultimately punched the Longhorns' ticket to the BCS National Championship game against Alabama, how he believes Texas would have had an easier time beating Nick Saban and Alabama than the Longhorns had against the Cornhuskers and much, much more.
In addition to the legendary on-field memories, the all-time receiver delivers some legendary off the field stories — many from his hometown in Burnet, Texas — including how he was late to practice because his grandmother shot an elk, parasailing gone wrong and an instance where both McCoy and he were late to practice after McCoy's horse got caught in the mud. (Yes, you read that right.)
Catch all of that and plenty more in The Flagship Podcast's exclusive interview with Shipley.
