Toxic positivity involves dismissing negative emotions and responding to distress with false reassurances rather than empathy. It comes from feeling uncomfortable with negative emotions. It is often well-intentioned but can cause alienation and a feeling of disconnection.Who is Dr. Sandra Miles?An avid "truth teller" and fierce humanitarian, Dr. Sandra Miles has spent the majority of the last two decades serving as a leader and administrator in higher education. An educator by training, specifically, she has had extensive experience advising African American/Black, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latinx, Jewish, LGBTQIA+, and Women’s organizations. Dr. Miles also has experience developing leadership programs, securing accommodations for persons with disabilities, serving as a Dean of Students, Chief Student Affairs Officer, Chief Diversity Officer, Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and mediating disputes. Currently, Dr. Miles is the Founder and Principal of DSM Initiatives, LLC, a lifestyle, leadership, DEI, spiritual, and organizational development consulting firm. Dr. Miles worked to expertise through the successful completion of her doctoral work at Florida State University in 2012, earning a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration. She also completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Central Florida.
