One of the ways that my parents would try to get us as children to do better, would be to compare us, shame us, threaten us, and at times, whup us.
The latter was, unfortunately, the first in their arsenal of choices. This was more so my dad than my mom.
Did they work?
Some did. Others only led to hurt feelings and at times passive resistance.
