Description

EPISODE 92 - Clark and John welcome back their friend Will who's filling in for Hyung while he's with the Team Canada Junior Baseball Team in Mexico. They start the show, off the top, by talking about the reported movie about the high-end sports card world, which is said to be in production for Netflix by the Safdie brothers featuring Adam Sandler. The trio have previously worked together on the critically-acclaimed film, "Uncut Gems." The guys discuss whether they think a dramatized movie on the sports card world will have any impact on the hobby.
In this week's Hobby Headlines, Clark, John, and Will dive deeper in discussion about unlicensed product (ie. Panini Prizm Baseball) and whether it's worth investing in. Will states why he collects certain inserts and cards of unlicensed product and what he finds appealing about them. They also ponder if Fanatics ends up buying Panini America and they come out with licensed Panini Prizm baseball cards, would the value of the unlicensed products increase or decrease as a result?
Next, Clark introduces a new segment called, "Change My Mind" in which he gives four hobby hot takes, and if John and/or Will disagree with any of them, they would try to "change Clark's mind" with their opinion. Some of the hobby hot takes in this segment include: Soccer cards won't see a bump in value during the World Cup; Hockey cards will only be relevant in Canada; and 1/1 cards from ultra-modern sets will be worth 75% less in one or two years.
Lastly, as usual, the show ends with the regular "Pick One" segment where each host names two cards or sets, and then debate which one they would rather invest in. The pairs chosen this week include: Trevor Zegras rookie cards vs. Cole Caufield rookie cards; Shohei Ohtani 2018 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor /5 (PSA 9) vs. Luka Doncic 2018 Panini Prizm Gold /10 (BGS 9); and Lionel Messi 2004 Panini Sports Mega Cracks rookie card raw vs. Lionel Messi 2014 Prizm Silver World Cup (PSA 10).
