LSU football defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide is HUGE for so many reasons...a statement win for Brian Kelly, huge momentum for the team and recruiting, excitement for the fanbase, and so many other reasons that make a win over Nick Saban so massive and exciting for any fanbase. But what does it mean for the LSU Tigers beyond that? Locked On LSU host Caroline Fenton highlights three conversations that LSU football fans can now have about their team since beating Alabama that would have seemed absolutely and ridiculous just a few short weeks ago.
First, we can have a conversation that Jayden Daniels is playing like a Heisman-caliber quarterback. Now it might seem far-fetched to say that Jayden Daniels WILL win the Heisman Trophy considering his slow start to the season and small sample size of elite play. But compared to Ohio State's CJ Stroud and Tennessee Vols' Hendon Hooker, the two Heisman Trophy frontrunners, Jayden Daniels is playing just as good as any of them.
Second, it is now safe to have a realistic conversation about LSU football's path to the College Football Playoff. I know, I know...a two-loss team has never gotten into the CFP. But with a win over Alabama, the Tigers now sit in control over the SEC West with a good shot to make it to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. So what does LSU have to do in order to make a case to be the first ever two-loss team in the top four?
Finally, LSU has the most impactful freshman class in the SEC. While that's an argument that could have been made even before a win over Alabama, performances from Harold Perkins, Mason Taylor, Emery Jones, and Will Campbell against one of the top teams in the nation solidifies just how good and just how impactful LSU's 2022 recruiting class has been for this team.
