Description

The number one critique of LSU footballs hiring of Brian Kelly was how he would fit in culturally. How could a man from Massachusetts, who spent almost his entire coaching career in the Midwest, possibly recruit and be successful at a school in South Louisiana where football is king and recruiting is everything? While we're over a year removed from those days and the skeptics have quickly quieted after a trip to the SEC Championship in year one, Brian Kelly's out-of-towner reputation may actually benefit LSU football in recruiting. Of LSU's 25 members of the 2023 recruiting class, fifteen are not from Louisiana. LSU landed the top recruit in two states not named Louisiana. The 2023 recruiting class represents eight states not named Louisiana. Will the diversity of the 2023 class be a good thing for LSU in the future?

While out of state recruiting seems to be a strength of Brian Kelly's unique to other LSU coaches in the past, one thing that Kelly is not alone in is his commitment to recruiting in state. Even with eight other states represented and fifteen recruits coming from elsewhere, LSU is still welcoming seven of the top fifteen in-state recruits in the 2023 season. But how can the Tigers be better? How can LSU solidify the top recruits in Louisiana every single year without losing them to Alabama, Texas A&M, and other rivals?
